Picture: Long Story Short – Netflix
After an excellent first season, there’s more Long Story Short on the way to Netflix after the streaming service decided to renew the series ahead of the first season’s release. We’ll be covering everything you need to know about the second season of Long Story Short, including what to expect, cast news, and the Netflix release date.
Long Story Short is an animated adult-comedy series created by the Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg. Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen executive produce for Tornante Television. Meanwhile, animation studio ShadowMachine’s Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley serve as co-executive producers.
Creator/Executive Producer/Voice Actor Raphael Bob-Waksberg attends Netflix’s Bojack Horseman Screening and Reception at Netflix Home Theater on August 20, 2019 in Los Angeles, California.
Long Story Short is centered on the dysfunctional Jewish siblings Avi, Shira, and Yoshi Schwooper, as it explores their childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and parenthood.
Long Story Short Season 2 Netflix renewal status
Official Renewal Status: Renewed (Last Updated: 12/08/2025)
On July 31, 2025, it was announced ahead of the release of Long Story Short that the series had already been renewed by Netflix for a second season! It’s not very often that Netflix will renew a series ahead of time, but sometimes an animated title will receive a two-season order up front. In the case of Long Story Short, it showcases how much confidence Netflix has placed in the series.
In true Raphael fashion, he said the following to Tudum about the renewal:
“Wow! A Season 2?! And Season 1 hasn’t even come out yet! It must be a REALLY good show. I can’t wait to watch it when it premieres on Netflix, Friday, Aug. 22! Let’s all do that!”
What to expect from Long Story Short season 2?
There’s still plenty to explore about the Scwhooper siblings and those around them in the second season of Long Story Short. Thanks to the show’s ability to tell a story in different eras and periods of the Scwhoopers’ lives, there’s arguably no shortage of stories they could tell.
Avi is the oldest of the Scwhooper siblings, and it’s been a rough few years for him after the death of his mom and his divorce from Jen. Not to mention his daughter, Hannah, who is now becoming her own person and is becoming more independent. We’re intrigued to see how the second season will potentially handle Avi’s faith, or lack thereof. With his daughter interested in having her own Bat Mitzvah, it’s clear she’s keen to explore the Jewish side of her heritage, and while Avi isn’t practicing, he supports her decision. Perhaps as Hannah becomes more interested in her Jewish heritage, this may open a door for Avi to rediscover his own faith. It would also be sweet to see Avi find a new love interest if there’s no hope of reconciling with his ex-wife.

Like all of Schwooper siblings, Shira had a complicated relationship with her mother, but ultimately cared very deeply for her. This is evident in her effort to replicate Naomi’s Knishes, which were initially ruined by the cat but then painstakingly replaced by Kendra. This was a significant moment of growth for Shira, who was notorious for being a bad cook. We’d expect the second season to further explore motherhood for Shira, and perhaps take further inspiration for honoring Naomi by exploring cooking more.

Yoshi is one of the most interesting characters in the series. While he wasn’t shown to be overtly interested in his religion as a child, later in life, he would convert to being a Modern Orthodox Jew, much to Naomi’s shock. Yoshi spoke about how, for years, he felt lost, and it wasn’t until he converted to being Orthodox that everything clicked into place. A second season we’d like to see is more of the time he felt lost, and perhaps even his first steps into being Orthodox. Hopefully, we’ll see Yoshi find a girlfriend, and perhaps he’ll even have another run-in with Baby, aka Rachel.

When can we expect to see a second season of Long Story Short on Netflix?
With Netflix renewing the series ahead of the first season’s release, it’s more than likely that the animators are already hard at work producing the next season.
Animation is a tough one to predict, as production varies from series to series. But, that being said, given the series order ahead of the season 1 release, we’d expect to see Long Story Short on Netflix in either late 2026 or early 2027.
