My Secret Santa: Everything We Know About Alexandra Breckenridge & Ryan Eggold’s Netflix Christmas Movie

With the Christmas season fast approaching, so too is Netflix’s line-up of Holiday films, including My Secret Santa, starring Virgin River’s Alexandra Breckenridge and New Amsterdam’s Ryan Eggold. Netflix has set a release date of December 3, 2025, so make sure to mark your calendars. Here’s everything we know so far about Netflix’s My Secret Santa, including the first looks and the full trailer that just dropped. 

My Secret Santa is an upcoming Netflix Original Christmas romantic comedy film directed by Mike Rohl, who previously directed The Princess Switch trilogy. The film is written by Ron Oliver (Falling for Christmas) and Carley Smale (Snowed-Inn Christmas). Howard Braunstein and Alexander Braunstein serve as producers.

When is My Secret Santa coming to Netflix?

Netflix confirmed in their Fall line-up list that My Secret Santa will be released globally on December 3, 2025. The movie runs 1 hour and 32 minutes.

What is the plot of My Secret Santa?

The synopsis for the film is as follows:

“A vivacious single mom in need of a job decides to disguise herself as a man in order to get hired as the seasonal Santa at a luxury ski resort. But when she starts to fall in love with the hotel manager, complications develop that could ruin everything.”

Entertainment Weekly got first looks at the new movie and an exclusive interview with Breckenridge ahead of the film’s release. The Virgin River star compares the premise to Mrs. Doubtfire, explaining, “She’s desperate to pay her rent, plus send her daughter to this snowboarding school… but she’s a single parent… and she’s just lost her job during Christmas.” Out of options, her character takes the only gig available-playing Santa at a ski resort. Breckenridge admits the transformation process was “a lot,” involving hours in the makeup chair and layers of prosthetics, yet the bold role reminded her why she loves acting. “It scared me to death,” she says, “but I was like, ‘I have to do this because this is actually why I became an actress. If I don’t meet my fear head on, what am I doing?’”

The physical toll of becoming Kris Kringle, ice packs, glue, and an uncomfortably hot suit, didn’t dampen her enthusiasm, though. “It reignited this passion of why I do what I do,” Breckenridge shares. To find her Santa’s voice, she studied Tim Allen’s The Santa Clause films, aiming for “an older, gravelly voice” that made the disguise believable. Beyond the laughs and festive hijinks, Breckenridge promises heart, noting that her character’s journey is about balance and self-discovery. “She’s been so focused on her daughter… but within that, you find a very lonely person,” she reflects. “Through this very wacky experience… she realizes that she can be there for her daughter, and have a relationship, and be happy.”

Who are the cast members of My Secret Santa?

Virgin River’s Alexandra Breckenridge, who we suspect is playing the role of the “vivacious single mom,” but the actual name of the role has yet to be unveiled. Outside of Virgin River, the actress is most well known for starring in shows such as This Is Us, American Horror Story, and The Walking Dead.

Ryan Eggold is also one of the lead cast members, who we suspect is playing the role of the hotel manager. He is arguably most well-known for playing the lead role of Dr. Max Goodwin in the American medical drama New Amsterdam. Other acting credits also include Fathers & Daughters and BlacKkKlansman.

Tia Mowry and Diana Maria Riva round out the remainder of the lead roles. Mowry is best known for her roles in the beloved ’90s teen sitcom Sister Sister and the 2000s rom-com The Game. Diana Maria Riva previously starred in Netflix’s hit black comedy series Dead to Me, and her other acting credits include What Women Want, Love & Mercy, and McFarland, USA. 

Madison Macisaac plays the role of Zoey Jacobsen, who is likely playing Alexandra Breckenridge’s daughter. The actress recently starred in Nobody 2, and previously starred in Elevator Game and Bring It On: Cheer or Die.
