Netflix is teaming up once again with Bambú Producciones—the powerhouse studio behind the massive international hit The Asunta Case—for another gripping true-crime dramatization. Production has officially started on En el nombre de Marta (The Night Marta Disappeared), a new Spanish limited series inspired by the tragic 2009 Marta del Castillo case.

If you were gripped by The Asunta Case or The Snow Girl, you’ll definitely want to keep this one on your radar. To bring this story to the screen, Bambú Producciones is co-producing alongside La Claqueta PC, and notably, the project has the official support of Marta del Castillo’s family.

Here’s everything we know so far about The Night Marta Disappeared.

What is the plot of The Night Marta Disappeared?

The six-episode limited series is a dramatized retelling of one of the most shocking and high-profile missing persons cases in modern Spanish history.

Here is the official logline provided by Netflix:

“On January 24, 2009, Marta del Castillo, a 17-year-old girl from Seville, disappears after leaving home to meet Miguel Carcaño. Within hours, what seemed like a typical teenage outing turns into a national tragedy. What follows is a nightmare for her family: contradictory versions, false confessions, a body that never appears, and a justice system that, despite handing down convictions, fails to offer solace.”

The series promises to be a meticulous and respectful reconstruction of everything that happened following her disappearance. It will chronicle the initial police investigations, the constantly changing stories from Miguel Carcaño and his accomplices, the ensuing media frenzy, and the relentless search for her body.

More importantly, it will focus on the family’s public battle against impunity, showing how the media fueled social tension and how the citizens of Spain turned Marta’s name into a powerful symbol for justice.
