After the success of the Extraction films, a spin-off series is in the works at Netflix. Led by former The Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara, it will star Omar Sy in the lead role. Details are still limited, but we’ve got some new updated details that give us an idea of where we’re headed for the Extraction spin-off on Netflix.
For those out of the loop, Extraction is an upcoming Netflix Original action thriller series led by showrunner, writer, and executive producer Glen Mazzara. The series is a spin-off of Netflix’s popular action-thriller franchise of the same name from the Russo Brothers, which stars Chris Hemsworth and has seen two entries with a possible third in the works.
So far, the only confirmed cast member for the series is Omar Sy, who will play the lead role of Kalidou Diallo, we can reveal. Sy is most well-known for his roles as Barry in Jurassic World, Bishop in Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, and the voice of Hot Rod in Transformers. For Netflix, he has starred in titles such as The Takedown, The Lost Prince, and notably Lupin (soon returning for a season 4). His character, Diallo, is brand new to the series, as he was not present during the events of Extraction and Extraction 2.
Joe and Anthony Russo continue as executive producers, and are joined by Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Castaldi, Sam Hargraves, Scott Nemes, Peter Schwerin, and Eric Gitter. The Russo Brothers’ production, AGBO, is producing the film. AGBO is responsible for the production of other Netflix films such as The Gray Man and The Electric State.

The official logline for the series read, upon the series’ initial announcement, “Set in the high-octane world of Extraction, this action thriller follows a mercenary (Omar Sy) as he navigates a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, the series delves into the emotional struggles of conflicted and flawed characters, each facing trauma, betrayal, and life-or-death choices.”
The new names of multiple characters have yet to be revealed, but we’ve learned some details about them:
- Kevin Porter – A former US Marine, the current head of security for an important oil field in Libya. He is a mentor and close friend of Kalidou Diallo. When militants attack the oil field, he becomes imperative to the defence and evacuation.
- Roger Ward – An important executive of the company who owns the Libyan oil field, Roger finds himself at the center of the militant attack after leading a surprise visit.
- Amina – The rock and anchor of Kalidou Diallo’s life, Amina is Diallo’s fiancée.
- Veer Banerjee – A 40-something executive, who is engaged to the son of the oil field’s billionaire owner, who also finds himself at the centre of the militant attack and taken hostage.
- Priscilla “Cilla” Ragab – Another executive, Priscilla doesn’t let the fact that she’s seven months pregnant get in the way of her work. She remains steadfast during the hostage crisis after the militant attack.
- Hamza Najjar – The charismatic leader of the militant group with a haunted past who is determined to fight threats domestic and abroad, including his corrupt government, and the corporations exploiting his country’s resources.
- Clayton Wisper – Clayton, the pragmatic and cold CEO of Wisper Group, prioritizes corporate assets over human lives in crisis situations, revealing a morally ambiguous leader whose hidden artistic side hints at suppressed emotions beneath her calculating exterior.
We previously reported that filming is being eyed to begin in Morocco in December 2025, with a duration of several months, and is expected to conclude in mid-2026. We can also report that Ireland may also be home to some of the filming of the production.
