Alice in Borderland has been one of the most successful manga-to-live-action adaptations on Netflix, and fans are eagerly awaiting the third season’s release. Eager to learn more about the upcoming season, tens of thousands of fans have been duped into believing the casting rumour that K-pop idol Yeji of Itzy has joined the cast. We have confirmation this isn’t true.
Alice in Borderland is a Japanese Netflix Originals series based on the manga by Haro Aso. Shinsuke Sato directed the series, which is one of the most successful and well-received live-action adaptations of a manga on Netflix.
The internet is not a stranger to spreading misinformation and rumours, especially regarding Netflix release dates and casting rumours. Recently, Alice in Borderland fell victim to a false casting rumour with numerous Netflix fan groups on Facebook posting that beloved K-pop idol Yeji of Itzy had joined the cast of Alice in Borderland season 3.
Netflix Updates, a Facebook page run by Gamurs Group, has a history of spreading misinformation. It was one of the biggest perpetrators of the rumour that Yeji was cast in Alice in Borderland season 3. The Facebook post has over 134k reactions and 2k comments and has been shared over 14,000 times. However, we contacted Netflix for comment, and a representative from the streaming service confirmed that the casting rumour was FALSE. This will be disappointing news for not only fans of Alice in Borderland but also Yeji.
The K-pop idol has only starred in one drama series in her career, having starred in a guest role as a “Backup dancer” in the 2015 K-drama Twenty Again.
