It feels like a lifetime ago, but Supacell premiered on Netflix nearly a year ago in late June 2024. While plans were initially to get production underway in early 2025, they have ultimately fallen through. The newest production listing, courtesy of UK Casting News, confirms that we still have quite a bit longer to wait, with production scheduled for this Fall (Autumn for non-Americans).
Renewed a couple of months after its premiere, the superhero drama series from Netflix UK dominated the Netflix charts worldwide, spending six weeks in the global top 10 and garnering 33.40 million views during that period, as well as 40.90 million views for the entirety of 2024. The show also garnered rave reviews and is one of 120 shows currently receiving a new season at the streamer.
While we don’t know how long production will last, a 2025 return for the show and perhaps even a 2026 one now potentially looks in peril. Looking back at season 1, filming took place between July and December 2022, with the series only premiering in June 2024. Our hope is that we won’t be waiting quite that long for season 2, but a late 2026 seems the most optimistic date right now, with 2027 almost certainly more likely.
The last public update we received on Supacell was in November 2024, when Rapman discussed the show’s future and provided an update stating that the scripts were nearing completion. “What I can tell you is that Season 2 is crazy,” the creator of the show told Deadline, “The writers’ room is all done, this season is just crazy.”
This production update is subject to change as the show has already set multiple production dates. The earliest production listing late last year suggested that filming would commence in Q1 2025, but this was later pushed back to Summer and now pushed back again to start in October 2025. Filming is taking place once again in the United Kingdom.
What could be the holdup? It could be that Rapman now has a busy schedule. In case you missed it, it’s been reported that Rapman has also secured another new project at Netflix. He’s inked a new deal to work on a crime biopic, The Council, which depicts a crime syndicate that operated in Harlem, New York City, in the 1970s and 1980s, with Nicky Barnes, also known as Mr. Untouchable, as the head of the organization.
