In recent weeks, reporting emerged that Netflix was in deep negotiations for a second season renewal for The Hunting Wives. This show was originally destined for Starz, but Netflix picked it up for US-only rights. After spending well over a month in the Netflix top 10s, Netflix has opted to renew the show for a second season and make the show a complete global original.
There’s no word on if and when season 1 of The Hunting Wives, which has been sold in other territories, will join Netflix outside the US, although it seems inevitable in regions where the rights are available. As for season 2, they do note, “Season 2 will release exclusively as a Netflix-branded series in nearly all countries where Netflix is available.” Australia and Canada are expected to be excluded.
The renewal comes alongside the news that all the main cast, Brittany Snow, Malin Akerman, Jamie Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier, will all reprise their leading roles, with the series picking up where season 1 left off.
Speaking about the renewal, Rebecca Cutter said, “I’m so excited to write these amazing characters again, and I can’t wait to take the audience on another sexy, twisted, batshit crazy ride through Maple Brook.”
In a video accompanying the renewal, you can see the two main stars of the show going at it in true Hunting Wives fashion:
Brittany Snow: Do you think that if you ignore me, I’m just going to go away? How dare you. I just lost everything because of you.
You magnetic, charismatic, perfectly symmetrical, beautiful cop.Malin Akerman: Hi Honey. Sorry, I was just in the shower, sad that you were leaving a voice message. Hey, are you there? I can hear you breathing.
Snow: Oh my god, I didn’t even realize I was calling you.
Akerman: You know I know what you sound like when you breathe on the phone.
Snow: That is unfortunate.
Akerman: Are you okay?
Snow: Yeah. I was just trying something new with my makeup. I’m really good. I’m not good. No, no, no, just calm down. I would give anything to see you. I would give up my dignity. I would give up my morals.
Akerman: It’s just you and me, remember? I have a feeling we’re going to see each other real soon. Actually, I know we’re going to see each other really soon.
Snow: What do you mean? Pack your boots and load your guns. We’re going back to Maplebrook for season two, baby.
How well did The Hunting Wives perform on Netflix?
The show performed incredibly well on Netflix, spending 47 unique days in the top 10s and only having just left as of September 7th, 2025.
Furthermore, it spent five weeks in the global top 10s too, something that’s incredibly difficult to do if you’re just available in one country.

Nielsen stats track US consumption, backing up the series’ popularity. It opened strong at #3, with 1.36 billion minutes viewed in its first week, skewing heavily female at 71% and slightly over-indexing with Black streamers at 16%. In its second week, the series gained an additional 200 million minutes to reach a total of 1.58 billion, climbing to #1 among originals and #2 overall. Unlike many shows that benefit from a late-week debut, The Hunting Wives launched on a Monday, making the week-to-week jump a clean comparison, and it also saw its share of viewers aged 18–34 rise from 18% to 27%.
Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment will produce season 2 with Erwin Stoff and May Cobb serving as executive producers.
