‘Untamed’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix; Eric Bana to Return In New National Park

Untamed, the new crime drama series that was originally labeled as a limited series, will be returning for a season 2. 

Released on Netflix on July 17th, 2025, the series has quickly become one of the biggest hits for the streamer in 2025, and Netflix has wasted no time in nailing down the cast and crew for a second season, which wasn’t originally envisioned. To recap, the 6-episode miniseries follows a National Parks Service agent who investigates a brutal death at Yosemite National Park. The series did wrap up the main story quite well, but it turns out another mystery will be awaiting… 

“I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of ‘Untamed’ to life,” Eric Bana said in a statement to Variety, which first reported the news, adding, “The response to season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.”

Speaking to Netflix’s TUDUM exclusively, co-creators of the show Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith reaffirmed that the show was always intended to be a standalone six-episode series, but now they’ve got to put their thinking caps on as to how to expand the story but concrete details on how the series would return in season 2 are currently unclear.

The duo has confirmed that Bana will be returning as Kyle Turner with season 2 set to explore new terrain, both geographically and emotionally, as Turner finds himself out of his comfort zone, implying he will be in the number 2 spot going forward, and in unfamiliar surroundings in another National Park. However, which one is exactly has yet to be confirmed. The new setting will serve as a central “character” in the story, shaping the tone and deepening Turner’s journey.

As we covered in our top 10 report on July 22nd, the series has made the biggest start not of any limited series so far in 2025 but of any series at all, even beating out the likes of Ginny & Georgia S3 and Adolescence. It debuts within its first four days with 24.6M views. It featured in the weekly top 10s in 92 countries.
