Welcome back to another weekly top 10 deep-dive where we’ll be looking at all the major stories from the top 10s this week. At the top of the charts this week are K-pop Demon Hunters, Untamed, Squid Game, and Brick, but what are the stories you should be paying attention to, and how did all the launches compare? Let’s dig in.
Also, if you enjoy this number goodness, you may be interested in my deep dive into the fifth bi-annual Netflix Engagement Report, which includes some of the biggest takeaways and learnings.
Note: In this report of Netflix’s hours viewed from July 14th, 2025, to July 20th, 2025, we’ll use “Complete Viewings Equivalent,” or CVE, expressed in millions. That means we divide the hours viewed announced by Netflix by the runtime of films or series. It allows for better comparisons between films and series, but it’s not an audience metric. It is the minimum number of viewings if they were all complete from the first second to the last second of the film or season.
First, let’s see how this week stacks up against all prior weeks going back to June 2023:
- TV (English) – Rank 18 of 109 weeks
- TV (Non-English) – Rank 37 of 109 weeks
- Movies (English) – Rank 46 of 109 weeks
- Movies (Non-English) – Rank 16 of 109 weeks
1. Untamed Is Yet Another Limited Series Hit for Netflix
Untamed has made the biggest start of any limited series so far in 2025, beating out stiff competition in the category this year with more views in its first 4 days than the likes of Adolescence, Missing You, and Zero Day. It debuted at number 1 in the charts with 24.6M views.
There have been numerous interviews with the cast that suggest they may be open to telling more stories, and if we were Netflix, we’d already be looking at making that a reality.
2. KPop Demon Hunters KEEPS growing…
Last week, we covered how KPop Demon Hunters was on track to become Netflix’s biggest animation release in its history, and this week continues that trend with the movie growing yet another 6% in viewing hours on top of last week. Just look at the stats for this movie:
| Week in Top 10 | Week Period | Hours Watched | Views / CVE | Weekly Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | June 15th, 2025 to June 22nd, 2025 | 15,400,000 | 9,200,000 | 2 |
| 2 | June 22nd, 2025 to June 29th, 2025 | 40,300,000 (+162%) | 24,200,000 | 1 |
| 3 | June 29th, 2025 to July 6th, 2025 | 37,800,000 (-6%) | 22,700,000 | 2 |
| 4 | July 6th, 2025 to July 13th, 2025 | 40,400,000 (+7%) | 24,200,000 | 1 |
| 5 | July 13th, 2025 to July 20th, 2025 | 43,000,000 (+6%) | 25,800,000 | 1 |
It’s now at the point where the movie is almost certainly bound for Netflix’s all-time top 10. We’ve placed Damsel in the chart below to demonstrate the barrier it needs to reach to hit the all-time list.
3. Netflix France Has A Hit With Under a Dark Sun (But It’s Not A Megahit)
One title we missed out from last week is the French title Under A Dark Sun, which had another solid week in the top 10s at the number 2 spot (although it still wasn’t enough to unseat Squid Game S2) with 5.8M views. That’s a hold from week 1, where the series also picked up 5.8M views.
4. Happy Gilmore Rises Ahead of Sequel
The promotional tour for Happy Gilmore 2 is in full swing, with Adam Sandler appearing near enough everywhere and the premiere taking place last night. It appears that this has had a significant impact on the viewership of the first movie, which featured in the weekly top 10s in 49 countries and was the sixth most watched movie for the week with 4M views.
Netflix strategically licensed the movie in most regions around the world to help refresh people’s memories ahead of the sequel launching this Friday. Interestingly, though, the movie is also set to leave Netflix in the US (among others) imminently, with it one of the departures scheduled for August 2025. Of course, the original movie’s rights belong to Universal Pictures.
5. DAN DA DAN Has Grown Its Audience Season Over Season
DAN DA DAN season 1 had a widely successful run in the top 10s for its first season, featuring for 12 weeks straight through its run, and so far, season 2 is not only keeping pace as of two weeks in but is actually slightly ahead of season 1.
6. The Sandman S2 check-in before things become complicated…
The Sandman season 2 has now had 3 weeks in the top 10s, and this week, the next batch of episodes will drop on Friday.
Due to the split volume, comparing things against Season 1 will become much harder because Netflix combines all viewership together, meaning you’ll have people checking out the brand new episodes in addition to people starting season 2 fresh. Either way, we can see the second season isn’t pulling in the sort of viewership that the first did, although whether that matters or not is up to you, given that it’s the last.
7. Amy Bradley Is Missing Captures A Big Audience
Although the Trainwreck and Untold documentaries suggest that Netflix users are willing to go beyond crime documentaries, they still absolutely rule the roost, and that’s the case with Amy Bradley which has had one of the best launches of any docu-series on a Wednesday with American Nightmare being the only major title ahead of it. …
8. Another Week, Another Trainwreck Documentary
Poopcruise’s crown is still very much intact, with the sixth Trainwreck documentary pulling in 7M views in its first week, making it the fourth biggest debut for any of the new docs. Next week: Trainwreck: P.I. Moms with only one more to come after that…
That’s it for this week! I’ll be back again with another timely report next Tuesday!
