Welcome along to another roundup of everything new on Netflix this week. We’ve got lots to cover as we recap the nine new movies, 18 new series, and one new game that launched on Netflix this week, plus the movies and series that have been dominating the US daily top 10 charts all week. Let’s dive in!
Still a couple of new releases to keep an eye on for the weekend. First up, The Penguin Lessons from Sony Pictures Classics, starring Steve Coogan and Jonathan Pryce, is set to drop tomorrow. The beautifully told story documents a teacher’s tenure at a school in Argentina during political turmoil, but he finds solace by befriending a penguin. On Sunday, new episodes of the Japanese drama series Learning to Love will begin dropping.
What to Watch on Netflix This Weekend
The Hunting Wives (Season 1)
Number of episodes: 8
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Drama, Mystery, Thriller
Cast: Brittany Snow, Malin Akerman, Jaime Ray Newman, Evan Jonigkeit, George Ferrier
Coming to Netflix in the US exclusively at the beginning of the week is The Hunting Wives, although it notably doesn’t carry Netflix Original branding. Previously meant for release on Starz, the series follows former city dweller Sophie, who trades in her old life for East Texas and falls into the magnetic orbit of a wealthy socialite, harboring many secrets.
The series has been receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews since its release, boasting a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes. In our review, we gave the movie a 3-star rating, praising some of the plot threads but criticizing certain characters for feeling like they adhere only to tropes.
Once you’re done with season 1 of this particular show, you can then jump straight into all three seasons of Hightown that also dropped this week, which will feel plenty familiar given that it also comes from creator Rebecca Perry Cutter.
House of Lies (Seasons 1-5)
Number of episodes: 58
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Cast: Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz
Writer: Matthew Carnahan
Runtime: 28 min
Picture: Showtime Networks
It was a licensing bonanza this week, with well over 150 episodes of TV from relatively recent to yesteryear dropping. One of the other best new licensed series is House of Lies, the often overlooked Showtime series that aired on the network in the mid-2010s across five seasons. Headlined by Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell, the series is essentially Mad Men, but rather than selling well-executed advertising campaigns, it’s about milking clients for the most amount of money while peddling utter nonsense. While the series starts off relatively weak, it certainly picks up in later seasons.
Happy Gilmore 2 (2025)
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Comedy, Sport
Director: Kyle Newacheck
Cast: Margaret Qualley, Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller
Writer: Tim Herlihy, Adam Sandler
Runtime: 117 mins
For the past couple of years, Netflix had boasted a significant summer blockbuster that reboots or revives a classic movie franchise. Last year, it was the turn of Beverly Hills Cop, and in 2025, it’s one of Adam Sandler’s most iconic roles: Happy Gilmore. With many old familiar faces returning from the original, in addition to lots of new faces (plus a buttload of cameos) we follow Happy as he picks up his hockey stick and returns to the green.
Reviews have been mixed thus far (our own is still to come – thanks, Netflix, for not sending us screeners!) with the movie carrying a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is 1 percentage point higher than the first movie. Criticisms lie at the door of the movie being completely absurd, while others take that as a win. The general consensus, though, is that if you loved the first movie, you’ll love this entry.

Untamed is one of two titles that are absolutely dominating the Netflix charts this week, and its performance thus far has earned it the bragging rights of being one of the biggest limited series launches of all time. Sullivan’s Crossing rounds out the top 3, with Season 1 still drawing in a lot of viewership in the US ahead of Season 3’s release in August.

Most Popular Movies on Netflix This Week

There’s just no stopping KPop Demon Hunters – the movie is on course to enter Netflix’s all-time most-watched list in just weeks, and given the trajectory of the viewership so far, there’s no guessing what the ceiling will be for the animated movie.
