It’s now been close to six months since the seventh season of The Dragon Prince hit Netflix, and its future has been up in the air ever since. The show’s creators intend for a season 8 and beyond, but Netflix itself has been quiet on the future, not responding to our requests for comment. The information drought may have just come to an end, however…
The news comes from multiple locations but has been excellently distilled together by Reel James, who has become the go-to YouTube channel for Dragon Prince news and features in recent years (and even did a great recap of NYCC for us last year) and he just published this morning a new video that seems to confirm that Arc 3 is happening.
First, some quick context. The Dragon Prince is Netflix’s long-running animated series from WonderStorm. It ran for seven seasons, ultimately with the seventh assumed to be the last. In the year running up to the final season, however, the team behind the show unveiled plans for season 7 to be moved into arc 2, and an entirely new arc was to be introduced. Netflix up to season 7 referred to it as the final season of the saga, with season 8 ultimately up in the air. It was confirmed by the duo behind the show that the next significant update would come at Comic-Con 2025. That’s a very abbreviated version of the situation, so we’d recommend checking out our full article looking into the future.
That brings us to now!
Yesterday, voice actress on the series, Paula Burrows (the voice of Rayla), posted on Instagram that she was back in the booth for a new project but couldn’t confirm exactly what it was for, given that she’d signed an NDA. The caption of the post, which is now up to over 700 likes and has a legion of The Dragon Prince fans in the comments, says:
” Sorry I signed an NDA…word on the street is something’s getting leaked at @comic_con “
The Dragon Prince is not explicitly mentioned in that post, but a few clues tie it to the Netflix series. Given we’re promised the next big update from TDP at Comic-Con, that’s a good clue. In addition, James also dug deeper to find that Paula Burrows tagged “Cosmic Sound,” a recording studio in Vancouver. This was no accident—he believes it was meant to encourage fans to investigate. His research into the location and context of the post found that it was the same studio where Burrows’ Dragon Prince lines were recorded.
It is important to stress at this stage that what she could be recording could be anything, with James speculating that it could be anything from a promo video to something entirely different. That said, with the connections it certainly does point to something about Arc 3 of The Dragon Prince, even if not season 8 explicitly. Going a step further, we don’t even know if Netflix is involved in whatever is planned for Comic-Con either.
Fingers crossed we get more The Dragon Prince news very soon. San Diego Comic-Con takes place between July 24th and 27th, 2025. All seven seasons of The Dragon Prince are streaming on Netflix.
