Wednesday dusts herself off, but Nevermore Academy is in as much peril as it’s ever been. Here’s our ending explained for Wednesday Season 2, Part 2.

Wednesday season 2 has returned for its conclusive four episodes. At the end of Part 1, Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega)  faced disaster after investigating a sinister conspiracy beneath Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital, where she found outcasts long thought deceased, imprisoned, and used for twisted experiments. After Tyler (Hunter Doohan) —in his Hyde form—kills Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci), he turns his attention to Wednesday, hurling her out of a window, and she crashes to the floor, lying motionless. The Hyde then takes off into the night.

In what are seemingly her final moments, Wednesday utters an ominous monologue. “Maybe I have made everything worse. Much worse.”

Warning: The following section contains spoilers. Proceed with caution!

This brings us to Part 2, which picks up with Wednesday in the hospital, just prior to waking up from her coma. In true Wednesday fashion, she quickly and ardently gets back to work — but this time, she’s joined by the returning Principal Weems (Gwendoline Christie), who acts has her spiritual advisor, much to Wednesday’s dismay.

Not only that, but Tyler’s Hyde is out on the loose, the killer zombie is still at large, and Enid’s (Emma Myers) seemingly imminent death remains unsolved. And, of course, Principle Dort shows his true colours.

What happened to Principal Dort? And what are the twisted politics inside Nevermore?

In the first half of the season, Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi) came across as relatively innocent and cheerful, but there was a darker, secretive, and manipulative side to him. Revealed to be a confidence trickster, Dort is the mastermind behind the Morning Song cult. He hires Gideon to do his bidding (or as he says, Gideon is the Great Oz; Dort is the man behind the curtain).

Placing himself as the Principal of Nevermore, Dort fancies it as a way to make a hefty pay cheque. He manipulates siren student Bianca (Joy Sunday) — utilising her siren charm — to have her make Wednesday’s grandmother Hester donate her entire fortune to him.

However, as clever as Dort is, his games reach a grizzly end. During the Nevermore Gala, Wednesday, Enid and Agnes devise a plan to make Dort spill the beans on his manipulation and embezzlement. Both Agnes and Enid perform a dance routine. Part of the routine sees Agnes go invisible and steal Dort’s pocket watch (which allows him to not fall susceptible to siren calls). Without the pocket watch to help him, Bianca forces Dort to confess to his crimes and schemes, which he does before the entire academy.

After revealing his secrets, Dort tries to escape, but is stopped by Ajax (Georgie Farmer), who uses his Medusa-inspired powers to turn him into stone. At the same time, a chandelier falls from the ceiling, sealing his fate has he’s smashed into tiny stones. Fair to say, he’s not coming back. And Nevermore will once again seek to fulfil the position of Principle. The position seems doomed at this point.

Slurp’s origin explained, and Addams Family secrets revealed.

Wednesday continues to reimagine the Addams Family mythology, and nothing digs deeper than season 2, part 2. These final four episodes explore the origins of Pugsley’s (Isaac Ordonez) zombie best friend Slurp (Owen Painter). While a funny, slapstick nuisance in the beginning of the season, Slurp’s true origins are revealed in Part 2.

Turns out, Slurp, who as a human was an immensely intelligent scientist who created a clockwork heart for himself in order to live, is actually Isaac Night. He is the brother of Francoise (Frances O’Connor), Tyler’s mother. We’ve previously seen him as a rotten cadaver, but it turns out that the more brains he eats, the more ‘human’ he becomes. By the time the season reaches its climax, Isaac is almost back to full strength, and he’s got one goal: to rid Francoise of the Hyde curse that she possesses.

In order to save his sister, Isaac needs an immense source of power. Thirty years back, during his first procedure, he used his then-friend Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán), but he was saved by Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), who cut off Isaac’s hand. Left dead, Isaac Night was buried beneath the Skull Tree.

When Morticia cut off Isaac’s hand, it became animated and the Addams adopted it. That’s right, this storyline also serves as an origin story for Thing.

Fast forward to present day, and Isaac — having reattached Thing to his arm — has kidnapped Pugsley to utilise his electrical powers. This leads the Addam’s Family on a group mission to save Pugsley. He’s strapped to an electric chair while the procedure takes place. However, we’re initially led to believe that Francoise would be the person cured, but at the last moment, she abdicates and forces her unwilling son, Tyler, to undertake the procedure.

Naturally, Wednesday steps in to save the day. She frees Puglsey. Then she, surprisingly, sets free Tyler from his bounds. Tyler and Francoise — both in their Hyde forms — battle it out. Eventually, Francoise falls do her death.

By the end, Thing rips himself free of Isaac and rips out his clockwork heart; a showing of loyalty to the Addams Family.

What to expect from Wednesday season 3.

We already know that Wednesday is returning for another season, and the ending of season 3 leaves behind a ton of loose ends. It’s far from conclusive. Namely, Enid is still out in the wilderness in her werewolf form, which, with her being an Alpha, she may never transform back into a human.

Rather than return home after term with her mother and father, Wednesday instead opts to embark on a road trip with her Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) in an attempt to track down Enid.

In addition, Wednesday ponders why she decided to cut Tyler’s bonds rather than kill him, and fears her merciful decision may come back to haunt her in the future.

In a showing of love, Morticia hands Ophelia’s book back to Wednesday, allowing her to hone in on her psychic abilities once more. Before the credits roll, Wednesday experiences a vision of her estranged Aunt Ophelia; who’s locked up in Hester’s house, and apparently, is determined to witness Wednesday’s demise. “Wednesday must die,” she scratches on the wall.

There’s more than enough loose ends to keep fans invested for season 3. I expect fan theories to be rife from now until its premiere. What do you think will happen in season 3? Tell us in the comments down below!
