The gates of Nevermore Academy are swinging open once again, and a new student (or perhaps a new foe) is officially enrolling. What’s on Netflix has exclusively learned that rising British actor Oliver Cunliffe is the latest name to join the cast of Netflix’s monster hit Wednesday for its highly anticipated third season.
While Netflix and MGM Television are keeping the exact details of Cunliffe’s character firmly locked (Netflix declined to comment and work with us on this article despite multiple attempts), we can confirm that he has signed on in an undisclosed recurring role.
What exactly does a recurring role mean?
For those unfamiliar with Hollywood casting terminology, being cast in a “recurring” role means that Cunliffe’s character is not just a background extra or a one-and-done guest star. Instead, he will appear in multiple episodes throughout the season and contribute heavily to an ongoing story arc. While he won’t be billed as a series regular (meaning he might not appear in every single episode alongside Jenna Ortega), a recurring status guarantees he will be a frequent fixture in the show’s overarching mystery.
Standing at an imposing 6-foot-3, Cunliffe brings plenty of genre experience to the table. He is best known for starring as Louis in the CBBC/Hulu sci-fi drama Silverpoint, a role that helped earn the show two BAFTA nominations and an RTS award. His recent television credits also include a recurring stint on Amazon Prime’s Patterns, Sky’s Safe Space, and BBC’s EastEnders.
A Star-Studded Season 3 Roster
Cunliffe is in excellent company. He joins a massive wave of Hollywood A-listers, industry veterans, and rising stars who have recently booked a trip to Nevermore for the show’s darkest chapter yet.
As we’ve previously covered, the new names joining Season 3 include:
- Eva Green (Penny Dreadful, Casino Royale), who has been cast as Wednesday’s estranged Aunt Ophelia Frump.
- Winona Ryder (Stranger Things, Beetlejuice), reuniting with Tim Burton in a highly anticipated guest-starring role as Tabitha.
- Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Andrew McCarthy (St. Elmo’s Fire), and James Lance (Ted Lasso), who have all been cast in undisclosed, highly anticipated guest roles.
- Chris Sarandon (The Princess Bride), playing Balthazar.
- Noah Taylor (Peaky Blinders), stepping into the universe as Cyrus.
- Oscar Morgan (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) as Atticus, and newcomer Kennedy Moyer as Daisy.

The influx of fresh blood comes alongside one notable departure: Noah B. Taylor (who played Bruno Yuson) is stepping away, officially making room for the new names. Naturally, all the core favorites—including Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Emma Myers (Enid), Hunter Doohan (Tyler), and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester)—are returning.
Production for Wednesday Season 3 is currently ongoing in Ireland and Paris, with Netflix currently eyeing a mid-2027 premiere for the massive fantasy series. More on everything we know about Wednesday season 3 here.
