It’s time to crunch the numbers for the week of July 27th to August 2nd, 2026! While Netflix deliberately kept this week’s new releases light, subscribers still found plenty to binge. Unscripted true-crime dominated the English TV list as The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare skyrocketed to #1 with a massive Wednesday debut, while action-thriller 72 HOURS held strong to top the English Film charts. We’re also tracking the uncertain future of Ransom Canyon, a solid global rollout for The Bombing of Pan Am 103, and some much-needed international wins out of India and Brazil. Here’s your complete breakdown of what everyone is watching.
It’s a noticeably quieter week on the top 10s as it looks like Netflix kept its slate somewhat clean to avoid the Spidey-shaped elephant in the room, which has gone on to do mega numbers at the box office (and will hit Netflix US later this year). It’s rare you see Netflix vacate its schedule for a media event. To that end, it’ll be interesting to see how it programs around Grand Theft Auto VI and some of the big Christmas movies this year, but I digress.
Speaking of Spider-Man, though, Netflix has actually been carrying some of the newer movies leading up to Brand New Day internationally over the past few weeks, and they are rocketing up the charts as people either go to the cinema and come back and relive or watch these to catch up before they go to the cinema. Of course, Sony Pictures has been licensing out Spider-Man super aggressively to Netflix around the globe and other distributors all around the globe throughout the year. The benefit of being an arms dealer is that you’re able to leverage everyone else’s reach in situations like this. Very cool!
On the all-time top 10s, three updates:
- Swapped has now finished its run in the English movie list and is #8, kicking down Leave the World Behind.
- I Will Find You has jumped to #9 on the English TV list and has LOTS of runway to keep climbing between now and late September.
- Latest numbers for Teach You A Lesson, although it looks like that may struggle to climb before the end of its run.
Finally, on notes. Netflix got their knickers in a twist and forgot to label its Hot Ones spin-off podcast as NOT a podcast. Per the official note: “An error omitted Hot Ones: Extra Heat from consideration for the Global Top 10 TV List (English) for the week of July 13, 2026. In correcting that error, the show takes the #8 spot on the list for that week. The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On: Season 4 moves to #9 and Avatar: The Last Airbender: Season 1 moves to #10.”
1. The Bombing of Pan Am 103
The only major new scripted title to speak of for last week is The Bombing of Pan Am 103, which actually premiered on the BBC in the UK last year, but Netflix waited quite a while to drop it globally, including in the UK, altogether last week.
The series is very reminiscent of Toxic Town, given that it’s a very UK-centric disaster story, albeit one that made headlines around the world. As a result, it debuted around the level of Toxic Town with 5M views in its opening week. The show is appearing in the top 10s around the world, though it’s bizarrely performing better in some European countries than in the UK, probably because many did catch it on the BBC.
2. Is Ransom Canyon Season 3 at Risk?
The second season of Ransom Canyon debuted to mixed viewership stats, and in week two, viewing hours jumped nearly 33% to 33.8M, equating to 5.5M views, enough for #2 in the English TV charts. It’s still down roughly 42% season over season, which is about normal, albeit we’re still 50/50 camp on the future right now.
Interestingly, though, this week we can see that season 1 has been getting a viewership bump, with it appearing #5 in the TV English charts this week (it notably didn’t feature at all last week) with 2.5M views. That does suggest new people are working their way through, something Netflix will take into account when considering a season 3 renewal.
3. The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare
On the unscripted side, Netflix had another huge win with The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare, which rocketed up the charts and posted one of the strongest, if not the strongest, debuts for a docu-series on a Wednesday, albeit this is still a relatively new day for crime docu-series. This had a very small promotional run-up, just to show that a gripping true-crime doc can debut strong regardless of promotion.
4. Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 Ending its Top 10 Run
Much like the first season, season 2 of the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender looks to be falling out of the weekly top 10s this week. Overall, the series is roughly down 49% season over season.
5. Musafir Cafe from Netflix India
Netflix has had some flops on the new Indian series side, with titles dropping on Fridays throughout 2026, notably Kurukshetra: The Great War of Mahabharata and Hello Bachchon, which did not feature in the top 10s in their debut weeks. That’s fixed with Musafir Cafe, which debuted with 3.7M views, placing it right at the top compared to other Indian titles from the past few years: a much-needed win!
6. Wrath from Netflix Brazil
Netflix Brazil had a pretty OK but not great debut for its new MMA thriller series Wrath, which debuted with 2.2M views.
