What’s Going on With ‘Tex Mex Motors’ Season 3 on Netflix?

It looks like the reality series has been quietly shelved at Netflix.

It’s been well over a year since the second season of Tex Mex Motors dropped onto Netflix, leaving gearheads and fans wondering if the crew will ever return to the border to hunt down another batch of rusty gems. Here is everything we know about the likelihood of a third season—and unfortunately, the news isn’t looking good.

For those who need a quick refresher, Tex Mex Motors follows a ragtag team of automotive specialists as they hunt down dilapidated classic cars across the border in Mexico, haul them to their shop in El Paso, Texas, and restore them into high-dollar masterpieces. The series released its six-episode second season in late 2024, though the premiere was heavily overshadowed by the tragic and sudden passing of co-creator and beloved star Rob “Rabbit” Pitts, who lost a battle with stomach cancer in August of that year.

Since then, Netflix has been incredibly quiet about the future of the series. But thanks to some social media sleuthing and a deep dive into the show’s production network, we have a fairly clear picture of where Tex Mex Motors stands as of mid-2026.

What the Cast is Saying

Because Netflix is notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to officially canceling its reality programming, fans often have to look to the cast for answers. Recently, cast member Jaime Hjelm has been candid in her Instagram comment sections regarding the show’s status.

Back in October 2025, when the series proudly picked up two Daytime Emmy nominations, fans posted in the comments asking for a new season. When one fan wrote, “We need a new season,” Jaime responded:

“I know!! We are all waiting patiently.”

When another fan suggested it should be a yearly show, she replied:

“I wish, we have so much love for cars…”

Unfortunately, as the months have ticked on, the updates haven’t gotten any more promising. In January 2026, when a Portuguese-speaking fan asked when new episodes would arrive, Jaime gave a blunt update:

“they have not renewed us yet.”

Most recently, in March 2026, a fan directly asked, “Will there be a Season 3??” Robert Pettit replied:

“not that we’ve heard…. Fingers crossed!”

Production Is Completely Stalled

To corroborate the cast’s statements about the show being in limbo, we’ve trawled through the resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and online portfolios of the behind-the-scenes crew. Usually, if a reality show is gearing up for a new season, we’ll see camera operators, producers, or location scouts updating their current work history to reflect it.

So far, we have found absolutely zero evidence that Tex Mex Motors is in pre-production, currently filming, or scheduling a shoot.

Adding fuel to the fire is Netflix’s recent track record with its automotive reality shows. We recently confirmed that Car Masters: Rust to Riches has been canceled after six seasons.

For a long time, Car Masters was the flagship gearhead show on the platform. The fact that Netflix is pulling the plug on its longest-running car restoration series suggests that the streaming service may be re-evaluating the genre’s return on investment or pivoting away from this specific style of unscripted programming altogether.

Finally, there is the undeniable elephant in the room: how do you continue Tex Mex Motors without Rob “Rabbit” Pitts?

Rabbit was the heart and soul of the show’s Mexican car-hunting operations. His dynamic with Scooter drove the narrative just as much as the engine rebuilds did. While it’s not entirely impossible for a show to pivot or bring in new blood after the loss of a star, many fans across social media and Reddit have expressed that doing so might feel hollow.

While Netflix hasn’t stamped Tex Mex Motors with an official “Canceled” label, all the signs point to the show being quietly shelved. Between the lack of crew activity, the cast waiting by the phone, and the recent axing of Car Masters, fans should probably consider Season 2 the final lap for the El Paso crew.
