From true stories to adaptations of classics, Netflix has delivered some excellent crime dramas so far in 2026, but which ones have stood out to us the most?

Crime dramas are one of Netflix’s biggest categories; look no further than the glut of Harlan Coben series on the streamer, which recently reached 13 titles in total. Whether it’s dramas based on true stories, plausible works of fiction, or adaptations of classics — Netflix has already released plenty of top-tier genre series.

In this list, we’re looking specifically at the best crime dramas. For the best new series of 2026 so far, take a look here

In no particular order, then:

Run Away

Run Away Series January

2026 kicked off in the best way possible — with a new crime thriller from Harlan Coben. Dropping on January 1, Run Away takes place in the United Kingdom, following Simon (James Nesbitt, who plays his third role in a Coben drama after ‘Stay Close’ and ‘Missing You’), a desperate father who searches for his missing daughter Paige (Ellie de Lange), finding himself in way over his head when he becomes involved in a murder case and at odds with a cult. Rounding out the core cast are Simon’s wife, Ingrid (Minnie Driver), and their three children, Paige (Ellie de Lange), Anya (Ellie Henry), and Sam (Adrian Greensmith). Also playing big roles are Maeve Courtier-Lilley as Dee Dee and Jon Pointing as Ash, a duo tasked with killing a specific group of people (for reasons we won’t delve into for spoiler reasons).

Run Away encapsulates everything great about a ‘Cobenverse’ drama; it has thrills, hidden identities, complex family dramas, a series of clues and breadcrumbs, and a gripping, tough-to-guess mystery at its core. We praised it for all of those things in our review, although it did feel a little too formulaic, especially after all of the Coben dramas that preceded it.

His & Hers

His &Amp; Hers Most Watched Tv Shows On Netflix Uk This Week Jan 23 2026Jpg

Just over a week after Run Away, Netflix dropped His & Hers, a crime thriller that shot up the charts, spending an impressive 7 weeks in the streamer’s Top 10 rankings. Perhaps the first standout element of His & Hers is its headline stars: Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal. The two play estranged spouses Anna, a news reporter, and Jack, a skilled detective. Their work becomes intertwined and entangled when they both become involved in a murder case, in which they each believe the other is the suspect. Are there really two sides to every story? If so, which one is lying?

Based on Alice Feeney’s bestselling psychological thriller from 2020 (which was set in the UK, while the show switches setting to the US), His & Hers plays on its central premise of “two sides to every story” really well. It takes the viewer on a complex journey that shifts perspectives, keeping you guessing.

The 6-part drama is a limited series that’s fully complete and ends nicely, without the need for another season.

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials

Seven Dials Mystery Netflix Series Release Date

Agatha Christie is widely considered to be the greatest crime and mystery writer of all-time. She’s literally nicknamed the Queen of Crime, and some of her most notable works include And Then There Were None and Murder on the Orient Express. Earlier this year, Netflix tackled one of her slightly lesser known stories by reimagining her The Seven Dials Mystery (1929). Brought to television by former Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall, the stylish 3-episode drama is a fun, gripping, and albeit dense watch.

Seven Dials begins at an English country mansion called the Chimneys. The story picks up at a lavish, glamorous house party at the stately home, hosted by Sir Oswald Coote and his wife, Lady Coote, and attended by the guests of Chimneys’ owner, Lord Caterham. There, the handsome and much desirable Gerry Wade (Corey Mylchreest) flirts with Bundle (Mia McKenna-Bruce ) —  Caterham’s daughter — hinting at a possible matrimony. However, the next morning, when everyone wakes up still exhausted following the night before, Bundle finds herself rather shocked to learn that Gerry Wade appears to have overslept. This is particularly strange given that seven alarm clocks rang in his bedroom.

In our review, we praised the standout performance of young headline star Mia McKenna-Bruce, and deemed it a ‘mystery worth solving.’ For further reading, we also did a big interview with showrunner Chris Chibnall

Million Follower Detective

Million Follower Detective Taiwan Series Netflix Preview

Coming out of Netflix’s international slate, Taiwanese crime drama Million Follower Detective puts a unique twist on the crime genre, blending a traditional murder mystery story with a modern-day, influencer-centric twist. The 8-episode drama follows Detective Chen Chia-jen (Ekin Cheng), who jumps on a case involving a sadistic online tarot reader called Witch Baba, who prophecies the deaths of influencers… and is chillingly accurate in their predictions.

Million Follower Detective is a timely, thrilling, no-holds-barred drama. It’s vibrant with high-octane action, all wrapped up in some brilliant performances. Million Dollar Detective was released as a limited series and offers a full, complete narrative with a definitive ending. There’s no need to worry about being left hanging!

Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole

Jo Nesbo Detective Hole

Norwegian author Jo Nesbø’s internationally acclaimed Detective Harry Hole series was touted for a TV adaptation for many years before it actually happened earlier this year. The novels began way back in 1997 with The Bat, spanning a series of 14 novels. After myriad anticipation, the series aired to much acclaim. Notably, titular star Tobias Santelmann plays the flawed, but brilliant Detective Hole excellently.

The 9-episode show adapts Nesbo’s novel The Devil’s Star, which is the fifth book in his series. Nesbø personally chose to start with his fifth story because that’s the point where the world and characters are the most fleshed out, and it’s where everything comes together. In this storyline, Detective Hole investigates a murder case, in which the perpetrator  commits a series of pentagram-adorned murders hits Oslo. While in pursuit of the killer, Hole also has to contend with a corrupt police colleague, Tom Waaler (Joel Kinnaman).

Detective Hole was a highly rated debut; in fact, it currently boasts an impressive 91% average critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Netflix is yet to renew the series for another installment. Should the streamer want to renew, there’s a wealth of other (arguably better) stories in the series of novels to adapt.

Legends

An unbelievable true story that pulls back the curtain on the war on drugs in the United Kingdom during the 1990s, Legends explores how a tight-knit team of ordinary customs officers went undercover — with very little training —  to thwart one of the biggest drug gangs in the country.

The team of four customs officers — Guy (Tom Burke), Hayley Squires (Kate), Aml Ameen (Bailey), and Erin (Jasmine Blackborow) — are thrust undercover into the epicenter of the drug empire in England, which stems from London and Liverpool. The team is spearheaded by Don, played by acting legend Steve Coogan. Not only does Legends portray the suspense and tension of undercover officers, but it also offers a full cross section of the drug empire in the UK, from the biggest players to street dealers, to those farming opium.

In our review, we rated Legends 4/5

The Witness

Back in the 1990s, the United Kingdom was shocked by the murder of mother Rachel Nickell in Wimbledon Common. She was killed in broad daylight, with only her three-year-old son Alex as the witness. The murder saw André Hansombe become a single father overnight, with the case causing immense media fallout. Living with the trauma of what happened, both André and Alex were mainstays in news headlines; so much that the pressure and harassment saw them flee the country. All the while, the police continued their investigation into the murder, which led to the arrest of Colin Stagg — a conviction that became one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in UK history.

This 3-part series is incredibly personal, chronicling the intimate journey of father-and-son duo Alex and Andre after tragedy. It also depicts the flawed police investigation into the murder. In our review, we gave The Witness a vert strong 4/5 rating

I Will Find You

1 New First Look I Wil Find You Harlan Coben Netflix June 2026

Caption/Description: I Will Find You. Sam Worthington as David Burroughs in Episode #102 of I Will Find You. Cr. Courtesy of Netflix © 2025

I Will Find You is the second Harlan Coben drama of 2026, and the first of all of them to be set in the United States. This one is headlined by Sam Worthington, who plays David Burroughs, a man sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his son — a crime he firmly denies that he had any involvement in.

The series takes place 5 years into his prison sentence. An obedient and quiet inmate who takes no calls, everything is turned upside down when David gets a videos from his ex-sister-in-law, Rachel (Britt Lower), who shows him a photograph of what appears to be his son Matthew, complete with his distinctive birthmark, alive and well. Convinced that his son is alive, he breaks out of prison and follows a series of clues and hints to find Matthew. All the while, the police are on his tail.

Similar to Run Away before it, I Will Find You plays on many of the same narrative beats. You do get a sense of Harlen Coben-driven Déjà vu, but this show is so gripping, you can’t look away.
