The Wild Robot New On Netflix This Week

Picture: Universal Pictures

Welcome to another rundown of what’s new on Netflix in the United States over the past seven days. Below, we’ll be recapping our favorite new arrivals from the new movies and series that dropped this week, as well as taking a look at what’s been picking up the most points in the Netflix to 10s. Here’s everything new on Netflix for the week ending May 23rd, 2025.

Of course, May is now beginning to wind down, meaning that most of the focus is now on June 2025. We now have a comprehensive list of what’s coming up, with highlights including the new season of Squid Game and movies like Us and Barbarian amongst the roster. Also, in case you missed it, we published our list of 21 movies and series we can’t wait to watch in the back half of 2025.

Now, let’s dive into some of our highlights on what’s now streaming:

What to Watch on Netflix This Weekend

The Wild Robot (2024)

Rating: TV-PG
Language: English
Genre: Comedy, Animation, Sci-fi
Director: Chris Sanders
Cast: Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu

Note: Coming to Netflix on May 24th.

Coming up on Netflix tomorrow after its initial SVOD debut on Peacock is The Wild Robot, the animated film from last year that hit theaters in late September and went on to score over $300 million at the box office. Created by DreamWorks Animation, the film adapts the Peter Brown book with Chris Sanders, best known for his work on Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon, leading the creative charge to bring it to life, and boy, is this film full of life.

Nominated for countless awards, although ultimately robbed of winning every single one, the plot follows a ROZZUM robot who has washed ashore upon an uninhabited island and must learn to quickly adapt to stay alive in his new surroundings and does so with the help of the island’s various critters and animals. It’s a majestic film that has the ability to stay with you long after the credits roll. Full of heart and a visual showcase, do not miss this.

Fear Street: Prom Queen (2025)

Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller
Director: Matt Palmer
Cast: Katherine Waterston, Ariana Greenblatt, Lili Taylor

More 80s slasher goodness has just touched down on Netflix with the fourth instalment of Fear Street hitting Netflix. While not necessarily connected to the original trilogy that rolled out onto Netflix in the Summer of 2021, this one certainly shares the same DNA. Featuring a young and up-and-coming talent, the film is set during Prom Season in the late 1980s at Shadyside High, and while there’s a fight for who gets to be prom queen, contenders will soon find out the list of candidates is thinning fast due to a new killer on the loose.

In our review of the film, which we gave a 3 out of 5 star rating, we concluded that the movie doesn’t quite live up to the initial trilogy, but concluded it “looks the part of a late 80s-set slasher with the sequins, synth sounds, & stabbings that horror fans, especially us Elder-Millenial/Gen Xers, love to revisit again and again. An elite amount of 80s pop hits, a talented young cast, and a few standout kills try desperately to be enough to step out from its franchise trilogy shadow.”

Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds (2025)

Rating: TV-14
Language: English
Genre: Documentary
Director: Matt Wilcox
Runtime: 91 min / 1h 31m

On our most anticipated documentary list for 2025, Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds has been at the top for the majority of the year. Produced by the Obamas’ production company, the documentary seeks to give you an inkling as to the level of technical, physical, and mental prowess it takes to be one of the elite few pilots who make up the US Air Force’s Thunderbirds display team.

I managed to watch this in the morning, and it’s a visual spectacle. While it certainly feels more like an advertisement than a documentary, I ultimately didn’t care because of the unprecedented level of access, fantastic cinematography, and cutting-edge camera equipment used, giving me that aviation fix I haven’t had since watching Top Gun: Maverick.
