Netflix has announced it’s adapting Emily Giffin’s best-selling novel All We Ever Wanted and placed the project into active development. The potential series will see Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben reunite as executive producers, marking their first joint television project, following their recent collaboration on the book Gone Before Goodbye.
The adaptation is being produced by Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Coben’s Final Twist Productions, alongside Quay Street Productions (an ITV Studios Company).
Netflix, as you may know, has been adapting much of the library from Coben’s vast book collection, with two adaptations planned for 2026: Run Away and I Will Find You. Hello Sunshine has previously collaborated with Netflix on the limited series From Scratch and the romantic comedy Your Place or Mine, plus other unscripted projects.
Based on the 2018 novel by Emily Giffin, All We Ever Wanted is described as a drama focused on the secrets and class divides within a wealthy community.
The official logline for the series is as follows:
“A soapy and scandalous drama that uncovers the secrets and class struggles of a wealthy suburb; where a torrid love affair between a ‘have’ Mom and ‘have-not’ single Dad threatens to expose the sins and lies of all of those around them.”
You may recall that we reported back in August that Netflix was working on an adaptation of the book, when we covered several dozen books and comics that had been picked up behind the scenes with the intention of turning them into movies or series. As we noted then, reporting at the time suggested that the author was pitching an untitled series to Netflix with movie producer Molly Smith.
Jessica Goldberg has been attached to the project as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Goldberg previously served as showrunner for the Netflix space drama Away, as well as Hulu’s The Path and NBC’s Parenthood.
The full roster of Executive Producers includes:
- Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine
- Harlan Coben for Final Twist Productions
- Nicola Shindler for Quay Street Productions
