Netflix has lined up another SVOD debut for October 2025 in the United States with the faith comedy movie Bad Shabbos set to debut on the platform on October 16th, 2025.
Directed by Daniel Robbins with a screenplay written by Robbins alongside Zack Weiner, the movie follows “David and his fiancée Meg as they are about to have their parents meet for the first time over a Shabbat dinner on New York’s Upper West Side when an accidental death (or murder?) gets in the way. With Meg’s Catholic parents due any moment, this family dinner soon spirals into a hilarious disaster.”
The film arrives on Netflix following its initial debut in late 2024 at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it was the prize winner of the Audience Award for Best Narrative. The movie then had a wider theatrical release in the USA from May 2025. Since that theatrical engagement, it has landed on VOD platforms, but its Netflix release marks its first time on an SVOD platform in the United States. To our knowledge, this is the first time the movie from Menemsha Films has made its way onto Netflix.
Bad Shabbos garnered a slew of positive reviews from both audiences and critics upon its release. The Washington Post’s Ty Burr wrote that fans of Woody Allen movies and fans of Only Murders in the Building would feel at home watching this. It sits at an 86% on RottenTomatoes.
