Disenchantment will return to Netflix for part 2 in September 2019. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming season of Disenchantment including how many episodes there’ll be, what we’re expecting, release dates and the future of the series.

If this is the first time you’re hearing of Disenchantment then take this opportunity to go and watch the first 10 episodes now on Netflix.

Released last year in August 2018, Disenchantment was Matt Groening’s first big Netflix project. It rewinds the clock and takes us back to the medieval times and although there are some crossovers with Futurama it’s a brand new IP with all new characters. We follow Bean who wants to break away from her princess role and go on adventures and does so with a half-elf named Elfo and a Luci, a demon.

Reviews from critics weren’t the best for the series but audiences scores have fared better. As of March 2019, the series sits at a 7.2 on IMDb, 64% on Rotten Tomatoes and 56 on Metacritic.

Review scores for Disenchantment

Before we begin, it’s important to distinguish the difference between part 2 and season 2. Netflix sometimes splits up its shows into two halves and that’s the case for Disenchantment. Season 1 consists of two parts with 10 episodes apiece.

The trailer for season 2 of Disenchantment released in early September 2019.

What will happen in part 2 of Disenchantment?

Caution: spoilers below

The series ended with Dreamland being essentially frozen over, Beane being taken to a foreign land accompanied by her mother and Luci likely being kidnapped or assassinated.

After the credits for episode 10 rolled, we saw Elfo washed up on a beach but picked up by what is rumored to be mermaids. Elfo discovered a little more about his past in part 1 of the show with it being revealed he’s only half-elf. Given how prominent magic features in the show some have predicted that in one way or another Elfo (voiced by Nat Faxon) is going to be revived in one way or another.

That’s not to say that characters will be around forever, though. Matt Groening has said: “very excited to continue this great journey with Netflix. Stay tuned for more cranked-up suspense, thrilling plot twists and beloved characters getting knocked off.”

Beyond just the main storyline, there’s a lot of other things that need to be answered about the universe. Josh Strangehill who works on the series has teased that all will be revealed in the future. Many have speculated this character seen below is somehow related to the actual race of Elfo.

When will part 2 of Disenchantment be on Netflix?

On May 16th, 2019 it was announced that part 2 of Disenchantment would be coming to Netflix slightly later than expected in September 2019.

The show will be returning on a Friday.

Up until the announcement we were expecting the show to arrive a year after part 1 did. Netflix has up until now held a release date on the show’s page saying part 2 would arrive in 2019.

Will there be more episodes after part 2 of Disenchantment?

Yes! Only a handful of shows have managed to gain multi-season orders from Netflix and in October 2018 Disenchantment joined the list.

When we first looked at part 2 of Disenchantment we highlighted an interview with Matt Groening (the creator of the series) who said that longevity is the key to his shows. This would imply that the show is intended for a long span on Netflix.

Right now, Netflix has confirmed there’s going to be two full seasons of Disenchantment coming. Season 2 has been confirmed to also be 20 episodes split into two parts again.

On the renewal, Netflix said: “We’re excited to continue this epic journey with Netflix. Stay tuned for more cranked-up suspense, infuriating plot twists and beloved characters getting knocked off.”

We now know that new episodes of Disenchantment will be coming out in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Here’s how that release schedule pans out in our minds over the next few years.

Season Part Release Date
Season 1 Part 1 August 2018
Season 1 Part 2 2019
Season 2 Part 3 2020
Season 2 Part 4 2021
