House of Guinness is officially coming back, as What’s on Netflix can confirm after waiting on the renewal announcement for several months. The sweeping period drama from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has secured a highly anticipated second season order at Netflix. Below, we’ll dive into the viewership numbers that got it renewed and take a look at what we can expect when the series returns.
As first spotted and clocked by various UK casting sites in early April, we can confirm cameras are due to roll on the new season in early 2027, specifically in January. Kudos will return to produce. It must be said that we heard earlier this year that plans for a second season were on ice, but thankfully, that was wrong. Filming is designed to take place after the Peaky Blinders series, which is helmed by Steven Knight, wraps.
In case you missed it, House of Guinness debuted in September 2025 as an epic, Succession-style drama exploring the aftermath of the Guinness family patriarch’s passing. The first season earned a four-star rating in our review, delivering a knockout mix of scandal, politics, and sibling rivalry in post-Benjamin-Guinness Dublin.
Official Renewal Status: Officially Renewed for Season 2
Despite some initial nail-biting over the show’s performance, Netflix officially gave the green light for a second season. As we’ve covered in the past, shows must demonstrate strong engagement, solid completion rates, and popularity in their home country to get a renewal—and the Guinness family managed to pour the perfect pint.
How well did House of Guinness perform on Netflix?
When House of Guinness first dropped amid a crowded TV slate on September 25th (releasing alongside Wayward and Alice in Borderland season 3), its numbers were solid, but perhaps not the instant smash hit many expected.
Here is a deep dive into the global top 10 hourly viewership data from its first four weeks on the platform:
| Week in Top 10 | Week Period | Hours Viewed | Views / CVE | Weekly Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sep 21 to Sep 28, 2025 | 35,700,000 (New) | 5,200,000 | 3 |
| 2 | Sep 28 to Oct 5, 2025 | 44,400,000 (+24%) | 6,400,000 | 3 |
| 3 | Oct 5 to Oct 12, 2025 | 23,800,000 (-46%) | 3,400,000 | 8 |
| 4 | Oct 12 to Oct 19, 2025 | 14,700,000 (-38%) | 2,100,000 | 9 |
By the end of its fourth week in the global top 10, the series had amassed 118.6 million viewing hours, equating to roughly 17.1 million completed viewing equivalents (CVEs).
While these numbers placed it behind some of Netflix’s massive UK hits like Baby Reindeer, The Gentlemen, and Adolescence, it managed to avoid the dreaded “flatline” drop-off. The real saving grace for House of Guinness? Outstanding, sustained performance in the daily top 10s across the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it consistently held its ground on the heatmaps.
Of course, a big ensemble cast plus Steven Knight being in high demand (including being tied up with the two new seasons of Peaky Blinders) and the high cost of a period drama
What to Expect From House of Guinness Season 2
Warning: The following section contains spoilers for the end of Season 1. Proceed with caution!
Season 1 ended on a massive cliffhanger, with Patrick Cochrane firing a shot at Arthur Guinness during a packed electoral rally. The screen cut to black before Arthur’s fate was confirmed.
So, where does Season 2 take us?
- The Fate of Arthur: Assuming Arthur survives the assassination attempt (after all, the real-world Arthur Edward Guinness lived into his 70s!), expect Season 2 to dive headfirst into his growing paranoia and ruthless political ambitions. The Guinness-Cochrane feud will undoubtedly escalate, fracturing an already fragile family dynamic. If he doesn’t make it, the show will pivot into a full-blown succession crisis for Edward, Anne, and Adelaide.
- Expansion to America: The finale laid the groundwork for a massive overseas storyline. With the Guinness empire conquering the United States thanks to Edward and Byron Hedges, expect Season 2 to feature a transatlantic power struggle and expanding business horizons.
- Philanthropy and Politics: Anne and Adelaide will continue to push the family’s philanthropic efforts. Historically despised by a large chunk of the population, expect the family to use more of the brewery’s profits to fund housing and essentials for underprivileged communities in an attempt to unite Ireland.
- Scandalous Romances: The messy family affairs are far from over. Olivia remains trapped in her marriage to Arthur while secretly continuing her affair with Rafferty (who she shares a child with). Meanwhile, Edward is stuck in his marriage with Adelaide, despite his lingering true feelings for Esme.
Netflix declined to comment. We first reached out over a month ago, but agreed to wait until Netflix was ready. Variety decided (once again) that today was the day.
