Little House on the Prairie is now available to stream on Netflix! However, months before its release, Netflix revealed that the series had been renewed for a second season. Filming is also currently underway on the second season. Here’s everything we know so far about Little House on the Prairie season 2 on Netflix.
Little House on the Prairie is a Netflix Original period drama adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved autobiographical novels, led by showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys). The first season was released on Netflix on July 9, 2026.
Little House on the Prairie follows the Ingalls family’s move from their Wisconsin farm to a log house in Montgomery County, Kansas, in 1869. Their new home was built on Native American territory, but Laura’s father had heard that the government planned to open the territory to white settlers and thus took the risk to settle his family. The family faces risks and perils during their two-year stay in Kansas, including falling ill, starting a new farm, and land disputes with Native Americans and the U.S. Government.

Ahead of its first season release, Netflix announced its renewal for the second season.
With the series only just released on Netflix, we haven’t received any analytics on how it has performed on the streaming service. But we are looking forward to seeing how the series performs over the next few weeks.
What is the production status of Little House on the Prairie season 2?
Filming for the second season has been underway in Winnipeg, Manitoba since June 9, 2026. The shoot will last for four months and is scheduled to wrap by October 16, 2026.
Who are the cast members of Little House on the Prairie season 2?
The following cast members will return for the second season of Little House on the Prairie:
- Alice Halsey (Days of Our Lives) as Laura Ingalls.
- Luke Bracey (Elvis) as Charles Ingalls.

What comes next for the Ingalls family?
Charles placed a lot of hope, and the vast majority of the family’s money, into settling land at Independence. Unfortunately for the Ingalls family, they cannot stay. Eli, the town mayor, sold all the settlers a dream, and the rug is swiftly pulled out from under everyone when the government decides it wants to cash in on their investment after purchasing the land from the Osage. With the Ingalls crop destroyed by the fire, mortgage debt looming, and their tenants back north unable to pay rent, it’s impossible to pay the $ 1.50-per-acre price and get back on their feet.
Ultimately, they face the tough choice of leaving their little house, and with Mr. Edwards joining them, the Ingalls set forth for pastures new in the town of Walnut Grove in Minnesota.
The next season will cover the events of Laura Ingalls’ autobiographical children’s novel “On the Banks of Plum Creek.”
When is Little House on the Prairie season 2 released on Netflix?
If the second season follows the same schedule as the first, then we’d expect to see Little House on the Prairie season 2 on Netflix sometime between June 2027 and August 2027.
The first season of Little House on the Prairie is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on July 9, 2026, and with the second season following a similar production schedule, we would expect season 2 to land on Netflix sometime in July or August 2027.
Will Netflix renew Little House on the Prairie for season 3?
By renewing the series for a second season before the first season’s release, Netflix demonstrates its confidence in the adaptation’s success. If the series performs as Netflix expects, there’s an incredibly high chance we’ll see Little House on the Prairie renewed before the second season’s release.
It’s no secret that Little House on the Prairie spans 22 years, from 1872 to 1894. Just as the original and beloved NBC adaptation did, the Netflix adaptation could run for the next decade.
Just as audiences did in the 1970s/1980s with Melissa Gilbert, the original Laura Ingalls, we’ll get to see the new actress, Alice Halsey, grow up on screen.
