Not for the first time in 2025, Netflix is launching a brand new game alongside a new Netflix Original project! Happy Gilmore 2 is one of the biggest movie projects of the year, and to celebrate, Netflix has launched a retro-PS1 style golf game that’s available now on the web and connected TVs.
Complete with 90s-style early 3D graphics (complete with funky animations and clunky gameplay), the game has you teeing off as Happy in the hopes of collecting money and getting the ball in the hole under par, but you’ll have a few obstacles along the way. It’s dubbed a demo given that there’s only one course, albeit there are a few surprise minigames to be found along the way.
The game is controlled by your TV remote on connected devices or your keyboard if you’re on the web. Alternatively, you can open the menu and scan a QR code, which will open your Netflix app on your mobile device, allowing you to use it as a controller. The inputs are simple: the direction of where you want to hit the ball and then timing the swing power (which can be influenced by a familiar rowdy fan in the crowd calling you a jackass).
The game itself has plenty of Easter eggs of its own, including numerous iconic moments (such as strangling the caddy and even a special appearance by a particular crocodile and his victim at the end). It’s only a single level, but there are numerous minigames to be played, including the aforementioned Tekken-style fighting segment where you get to beat up or get beaten up by Bob Barker.
Amber Studio is behind the game, marking the developers’ first collaboration with Netflix. The studio has previously worked on titles such as Gotham Knights and Secret Neighbor.
This marks the second time in 2025 that Netflix has launched a game in conjunction with a TV/movie release. Earlier this year, Black Mirror got a perfect tie-in simulation mobile game called Thronglets, which was based on one of the episodes.
It also marks one of the first major TV game releases of the year, which will be a priority for Netflix moving forward with the rollout of Netflix’s new UI and a pullback on mobile releases.
