Netflix has a number of high-profile romantic comedies coming up in 2026, and one has just been dated. Office Romance, a new rom-com starring Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein, is hitting our screens on June 5th.
Netflix’s Office Romance was written by Ted Lasso creators Brett Goldstein and Joe Kelly, with Goldstein also starring as already mentioned. The movie is directed by Ol Parker, whose credits include Ticket to Paradise and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! Ryder Picture Company and Nuyorican Productions are behind the movie.
The film, first announced in September 2024, is produced by Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Joe Kelly, Brett Goldstein, and Jennifer Lopez. Courtney Baxter serves as a producer as well.
What’s the plot of Office Romance?
The plot of Netflix’s Office Romance promises to be a fresh take on the classic genre, and we now have a brief logline for the movie:
“Jackie Cruz (Lopez), President and CEO of Air Cruz, runs a tight ship in her business, including a rigid anti-fraternization policy for all her employees. When a new sexy employee named Daniel Blanchflower (Goldstein) begins working for her, that policy becomes very tested.”
According to director Ol Parker, speaking to People, who first announced the release date and first look (see above), the raunchy comedy “pushes the envelope slightly for what people might expect from a Jennifer Lopez movie.” Lopez herself noted that the script “felt instantly special, a new kind of romantic comedy that really speaks to the times” and described it as “a com rom! It’s a classic romance, with modern edgier humor.”
The reversed workplace power dynamic—with Goldstein’s Daniel as an underling to Lopez’s CEO Jackie—created highly fertile ground for the script. Goldstein noted, “I think I’ve always been drawn to workplace relationships because they are inherently loaded. People trying their best to behave correctly while also being completely undone by their feelings is where comedy and romance live.”

Who is cast in Office Romance?
The main romantic duo of Office Romance consists of singer and actress Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein, most famous for his role in Ted Lasso. They will play the aforementioned CEO Jackie Cruz and the new employee, Daniel Blanchflower, respectively. Goldstein and Kelly actually wrote the film specifically for Lopez, agreeing that she was “the best rom-com star” while penning the script on a train ride.
This marks Lopez’s third major scripted movie for Netflix, following The Mother (one of Netflix’s most-watched movies of all time) and Atlas.
Betty Gilpin, whose recent projects include the Netflix release American Primeval and the Netflix project Death by Lightning, will join them. Zuhdi Boueri (The Report) has been cast in the role of Dylan.
Netflix previously confirmed that Edward James Olmos and Lopez would reunite on screen as father and daughter again. They previously held those roles in the 1997 biopic Selena. Olmos plays the role of Captain Jack Cruz.
