The Eternaut Renewed For Season 2

It’s official! After that explosive cliffhanger ending, the mysterious Argentinian thriller series The Eternaut will be coming back for a season 2.

Released on April 30th, 2025, The Eternaut adapts Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López’s graphic novel of the same name. It depicts a future where a deadly snowstorm has killed millions, and we follow a group of survivors doing what they must.

The series is critically acclaimed, with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes at publication. Our review gave it a 3/5 star rating, concluding that the show is “a visually dazzling rendition of a snowed-in Buenos Aires and has a strong flair for drama,” adding, “The Eternaut runs high on emotions. But it may be set back by the audience fatigue and well-trodden themes of post-apocalyptic movies and shows.”

The series has also picked up recent Robert King and Hideo Kojima endorsements.

A quick renewal looked on the cards last week when Deadline published an interview in which season 2 plans were detailed. Francisco ‘Paco’ Ramos, Netflix’s head of Latin America programming, said, “Season 2 is going to be very important,” adding, “It’s going to dig into a lot of sci-fi concepts that were just pointed out in Season 1, and they are going to be fully blown. We believe that we will manage to close the whole story in a beautiful way, with probably eight more episodes.”

Netflix officially announced the renewal on May 6th, and it is also now reflected in the Netflix app. However, as alluded to above, Netflix did not confirm whether season 2 would be the final season.

In addition to the renewal, Variety reports that the series has greatly impacted the local Argentinian economy. They state that the production crew consisted of over 400 people, and over 2,900 people were involved as cast, extras, or stunt doubles. The series was filmed in over 50 locations across Buenos Aires and contributed an estimated 41 billion pesos (USD 34 million) to the country’s economy.

How well is The Eternaut performing on Netflix so far?

We only have the first week’s data for the series so far, but it’s a breakthrough success worldwide. According to the Netflix top 10 data, the series featured in the weekly top 10s of 87 countries. In its first week, covering viewing from April 27th, 2025, to May 4th, 2025, the series picked up 58.30 million hours watched, which equates to 10.80 million views.

When you compare that performance to other series from Latin America, you can see it tops the charts, with only Fake Profile managing to best it.
