The Punisher
The Punisher season 2 is here but with the recent cancelations of three of the five characters that make up The Defenders, the likelihood of season 3 looks unlikely. Here’s what we know about season 3 of The Punisher and whether it’ll likely be Netflix to pick it up or Disney later down the line.
Out for the revenge for the murder of his family, Frank Castle dons the mantle of The Punisher.
The first season was only greenlit after a massive fan outcry for a solo series after he turned up in Daredevil season 2. His first season set up to flesh out his backstory whereas season 2 was to build upon the character.

The Punisher Season 3 Renewal Status
Official Renewal Status: Pending (Last updated 01/18/2019)
At the time of writing The Punisher still has a pending renewal status. By this point, most fans of the Marvel TV shows are expecting the inevitable that The Punisher will also be canceled likes its predecessors.
While many fans speculate that the Marvel shows will eventually be moved to Disney+. We speculate this will not happen as all the Marvel shows on Netflix have a TV-MA rating to which this definitely doesn’t fit in with Disney’s family-friendly take on content.

Speaking to Syfy, the showrunner of The Punisher is hopeful for a season 3. He said “We left season two in a place where my hope was everyone would just be like, fantastic, I can’t wait for Season 3,” adding “And if we get to make Season 3, I’ll be absolutely delighted. I would love to make 10 seasons.”
Marvel themselves are too hopeful for a future season saying “That’s not our decision to make,” going onto say that “It’s ultimately going to be Netflix’s call”
Our take is that it’s unlikely Netflix will renew given that they’re slowly killing off the Marvel shows to make way for their own content including all the Millarworld content likely starting to come to fruition in 2019.
So, who decides the renewal of The Punisher?
Ultimately it is down to Netflix to decide if they want more seasons of the Marvel shows. Fans can be forgiven if they have been led to believe that Disney made the decision on cancelation. This isn’t the case though as Netflix also holds the license to create content for the Defenders characters therefore even if Disney would like to use the characters for a live-action show, they can’t until the license runs out.

In the tweet above the showrunner of The Punisher has outwardly expressed his interest in developing the third season. The fan demand for renewal is definitely there but if they are to continue on with The Punisher expect a massive uproar if Daredevil isn’t revived.
The Punisher Season 3 Release Date
We firmly believe that The Punisher won’t be receiving a third season. In the unlikely event that the show is renewed then we would expect a Spring or Summer 2020 release date.
Even actress Deborah Ann Woll believes it to be the last time we will see her on screen as Karen Page.
Most likely the final appearance of me playing Karen Page will be in The Punisher Season 2. I miss her very much. Be sure to watch!! @jonnybernthal is amazing in it! So is everybody! Hope it gets to continue for a third season. 🤞 #Punisher #ThePunisher https://t.co/PqD4iuzXbd
