Happy Gilmore 2 Swings Big Netflix Top 10S

Welcome along to another top 10 report where we dive deep into the brand new numbers just revealed, covering the 40 most watched titles from the past week, spread out across movies and TV, English and non-English. Happy Gilmore 2 is the big hitter this week, so how well did the movie perform? Will it be chasing a spot in the overall top 10?

Note: In this report of Netflix’s hours viewed from July 21st, 2025, to July 27th, 2025, we’ll use “Complete Viewings Equivalent,” or CVE, expressed in millions. That means we divide the hours viewed announced by Netflix by the runtime of films or series. It allows for better comparisons between films and series, but it’s not an audience metric. It is the minimum number of viewings if they were all complete from the first second to the last second of the film or season.

First up, let’s see how this week’s views in the top 10s stack up against all prior weeks going back to June 2023:

  • TV English – 56,500,000 (Rank 17 of 110 weeks)
  • Films English – 117,000,000 (Rank 5 of 110 weeks)
  • TV Non-English – 27,200,000 (Rank 59 of 110 weeks)
  • Film Non-English – 35,000,000 (Rank 56 of 110 weeks)

1. Happy Gilmore 2

Following in the tradition set by last year, Netflix is bringing back an old favorite to headline its Summer blockbuster lineup. Last year, Eddie Murphy returned in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F after 40 years off the job, whereas this year, it was the turn of Adam Sandler to pick up the hockey stick and go golfing. It’s a nostalgia fest complete with lots of cameos and an excellent soundtrack, but how well did it perform?

Debuting with 46.7M views at the number 1 spot, that means it’s the second biggest movie launch of 2025 so far, with only Back in Action, which is in the all-time top 10, ahead of it. Assuming it sticks around, a spot could soon open up for Happy Gilmore 2, too, and we’ll keep you posted in the weeks and months to come.

2. Why Untamed Got Its Very Quick Renewal

Earlier today, Netflix announced that the “limited series” Untamed would be returning for a second season after just 12 days on the service. We’ve already covered how it’s had the biggest limited series launch in recent times, but in week 2, it continued to gain steam with a 6.1% increase in views week over week, with another 26.10M on its tally. While week 1 bested Adolescence, as you can see from the graph below, it’s now lagging behind.

3. Trigger and Wall To Wall

A middling start for Trigger, Netflix’s action thriller series from South Korea, with it sitting firmly amongst the pack with a 2.9M views start. Mercy for None is still the series to beat in 2025.

Wall to Wall rose 22% in viewing hours in its second week, with another 7.8M views adding to its total. With 14.2M views in its first 2 weeks, it’s quite some distance behind top runners Badland Hunters and Officer Black Belt, but closing in on Uprising

While on the subject of K-dramas, Squid Game season 3 is now in its fifth week in the Netflix top 10s, so let’s compare how it’s doing against its predecessors:

4. A Check-In With KPop Demon Hunters and Madea’s Destination Wedding

KPop Demon Hunters was finally unseated in most movie top 10s around the globe with the arrival of Happy Gilmore 2, but it’s still comfortably the second most-watched movie around the world ever since. Last week, the movie broke a record in being the only movie ever to grow in its fourth week, and this week, it defies gravity once again by growing another 2%, another Netflix first. It’s now comfortably Netflix’s most-watched animated movie of all time, and on its current trajectory, a top 5 spot in the all-time list seems all but guaranteed. Can it finally dethrone Red Notice? We’re going to find out!

Meanwhile, Madea’s Destination Wedding is performing in almost the exact same manner that the first Netflix Original movie did in 2022, albeit ever so slightly ahead. Given we’ve heard a third movie may be on the way, we don’t see performance getting in the way of a green light.

5. The Penultimate Trainwreck

Trainwreck may be losing steam with P.I. Moms, the seventh and penultimate instalment currently ranking last behind The Astroworld Tragedy with just 4.8M views. The final entry in this successful series is Storm 51, which has just been released and will feature in next week’s top 10s.

6. My Melody & Kuromi Scores Big Opening

The new Japanese anime My Melody & Kuromi had a huge opening this week. The Japanese stop-motion series managed to unseat Pokémon Concierge this week, although it fell a little short of Devil May Cry from earlier this year. It’s got an audience outside of Japan too with the 12 episode series managing to rank in the top 10s in 59 countries in its first week. Impressive stuff!

7. Mandala Murders Doesn’t Break Out But Does Enough

Indian Original series have really been struggling to break out of India, and that seems to be the case with Mandala Murders, which debuts in the ninth spot on the Non-English TV charts and in the weekly top 10s of just three countries. That puts it on par with Aranyak but behind The Royals

  3. Murder Mystery 2 – 9.6M views
  4. Hustle – 6.9M views
  5. The Ridiculous 6 – 4.7M views

For more big takeaways from the fifth Netflix Engagement Report, visit our learnings page, but the clear winner is the animated film Leo, which is getting a sequel. Plotted out over time, you can see how Leo in particular started big and remained big over time, whereas all the new releases quickly fell after their initial release.
