Warner Brothers is prepping the release of its big fall 2019 DC movie Joker which is releasing in cinemas from October 4th, 2019. Will ‘Joker’ be coming to Netflix in the near future? Let’s take a look at the streaming status around the world of the movie.

There have been many iterations of Joker over the years with Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger having their own respective cracks at the character. He’s Batman’s biggest nemesis and his new solo movie has been getting quite a few headlines but not necessarily for the right reasons.

Directed and written by Todd Phillips, the new movie will see Joaquin Phoenix take on the role of the classic DC villain.

Will Joker be coming to Netflix in the United States?

In the immediate future, Joker will remain away from Netflix. After its theatrical run, it’ll be due out on HBO where Warner Brothers have an overall movie output deal. Not surprising given HBO is owned by Warner who produces the movie.

Sadly, even past the first and second windows, it would appear it’s unlikely it’ll be headed to Netflix in the United States. With HBO Max gearing up for release next year, it looks as though it’ll be earmarked for that service. No massive surprises as Netflix invest in its own superhero content such as its titles from Millarworld and Dark Horse Comics.

Will Joker be on other Netflix regions?

It does look as though other Netflix regions will be getting Joker after its theatrical release.

Aquaman is currently streaming on Netflix Australia roughly 9 months after its cinema run which would mean we could expect Joker to stream at some point in 2020.

Netflix UK also gets DC movies after their run on Sky ends. On our schedule, new movies come to Netflix roughly two and a half years. Meaning we’re not expecting Joker to be on Netflix UK till at least 2021 assuming this deal is still in place at the time.

Most European regions and some Latin American countries still get DC movies further down the road too but again, don’t expect anything in the next year or so.

We’ll keep this post updated over time as we learn more on the streaming plans for the movie.
