Some big removals across all of Netflix's segments are leaving like Brain on Fire on the movie side, Stateless on the series side and Poinpy on the games side.

June is just around the corner, and while we’ll see the usual licensed titles shuffling on and off the streamer, we’ll also see some Netflix Originals depart. Some pretty big English-language Originals are saying goodbye this month, so let’s dive into the full list.

Why do Netflix Originals leave Netflix? Well, in many cases, Netflix doesn’t own the underlying rights to movies and series and instead licenses them exclusively for a fixed period of time. It’s the equivalent of Amazon Prime Video’s Exclusive vs Original labeling, but Netflix doesn’t differentiate. These are different from most removals in that some of these titles will potentially become lost media unless the underlying owner can find new streaming homes or alternative distribution.

Over 250 Netflix Originals have departed Netflix over the years and we’re keeping track of the majority of them in our master list

Poinpy

Leaving Netflix: June 10th

Joining the list of a dozen-plus mobile games that have departed from Netflix’s mobile game collection in recent months is Poinpy, the adventure arcade game that has you jumping higher and higher while collecting special abilities and fruits. It’s one of my personal favorites of the game library, with the game receiving a heavy Netflix PR push upon its initial release back in June 2022. It comes from Ojiro Fumoto, the developer behind Downwell, and is leaving Netflix three years after it was added. Devolver Digital distributes it, so it may end up getting a separate release after its Netflix departure.

Sergio & Gasten (Sergio Across Borders)

Removal from Netflix: June 10th

I must confess, this one is completely new to me, but that’s because it was only added to Netflix in two regions, albeit as a Netflix Original. It first arrived in 2022 and was only ever made available in Belgium and the Netherlands, which makes sense given the subject matter. The reality food series follows renowned Dutch chef Sergio Herman, inviting his friends to join him on “culinary adventures.” The series is spoken in Flemish, and while it does have English subtitles, the series never made its way around the world.

Blood Will Tell (2019)

Netflix Removal Date: June 21st

From Argentina, this thriller, written and directed by Miguel Cohan, first landed as a Netflix Original back in June 2019 and is now expiring after six years. The synopsis reads, “Family patriarch Elías begins to unravel after the death of his wife — which casts a suspicious light on her tragic accident.” Also known as La Misma Sangre, the movie stars Oscar Martínez, Dolores Fonzi, Diego Velázquez, and Paulina Garcia.

Brain on Fire (2018)

Netflix Removal Date: June 22nd

Chloë Grace Moretz, Thomas Mann, Richard Armitage, Jenny Slate, Tyler Perry, and Carrie-Anne Moss were part of the incredible cast assembled for this Netflix Original movie that dropped on Netflix almost two years after it first premiered at TIFF in September 2016. Now, after exactly seven years on Netflix, its license is ending. Based on the memoir Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness by Susannah Cahalan, the movie tells the story of a New York Post writer who developed a mysterious illness that left doctors puzzled to the point where they believed it was all in the writer’s head leading her to be committed to a psychiatric ward.

Stateless (Limited Series)

Removal from Netflix: June 25th

Added to Netflix in July 2020, this poignant and ever-relevant limited series from Australia features the talents of Yvonne Strahovski, Jai Courtney, and Cate Blanchett. It tells the story of four strangers who all intersect at an Australian immigration detention center with very different lives and backgrounds. Netflix distributed the series exclusively around the globe following its initial run on ABC TV down under.

Signs (Seasons 1-2)

Removal from Netflix: June 26th

Signs Leaving Netflix

Added to Netflix globally back in 2020, this Polish TV crime thriller from creator Tyler Harding follows a young woman’s murder, which began showing similarities to a decade-old cold case, leading to a new police commander who must break the silence permeating an Owl Mountain town. The series ran for two seasons across 16 episodes, all of which will be leaving five years after it was first made available.

Looking ahead to July, Call My Agent! and Harvey Girls Forever! look to be among the most high-profile departures, but we’ll have more for you in a separate roundup soon.
