Call the Midwife returned for an incredible fourteenth season earlier this year on the BBC, and those waiting for the series return on Netflix (in the US, anyway) don’t have much longer to wait.

With well over 100 episodes under its belt, Call the Midwife makes for an excellent binge-watch. The series now spans two decades and details the working lives of midwives, who often operated in tough conditions in the 1950s and 1960s. Season 13 of the show, which landed on Netflix in September 2024, brings us ever closer to the 1970s. These episodes explore events that took place in 1968 and ’69, including notably the Apollo 11 moon landing.

Call the Midwife has been a mainstay on Netflix in the United States for over a decade now. It was first added in 2014 and has seen regular updates every single year thereafter. Some international territories did stream the show, but that’s no longer the case, sadly. Despite only being available in the US, it still generates tens of millions of viewing hours in the United States alone, at least according to the Netflix Engagement Report. According to the latest data, the series has pulled in 35.1M views between January 2023 and June 2025.

BBC confirmed season 14 but also a season 15 back in February 2023, meaning you’ve got plenty more episodes on the way. Per a BBC Media Centre release in early 2023, the creator of the show, Heidi Thomas, said on the renewal:

“I’m overjoyed by the news that the doors of Nonnatus House will be open for a few more years! Call the Midwife is the pride and joy of all who work on it, but it’s our fantastic, loyal audience that matters most. We are a family behind the scenes, on the screen, and in front of the telly, and I’m thrilled that we’re all heading into the 1970’s together.”

Season 14 returned to the BBC for Christmas 2024 with its regular two-part Christmas special before then airing its regular episodes weekly beginning January 5th through March 2nd. It’s now spent a period of exclusivity in the United States on PBS and is finally heading to Netflix.

Episode 1 of the series takes us into the 1970s, where the Nonnatus House staff are caught amid social unrest in the Isle of Dogs, which complicates a difficult home birth. At the same time, Nancy gets engaged to her boyfriend, Roger, and is offered a job in Surrey, leading to conflict when she and Roger’s mother clash. Elsewhere, the team must support a pregnant 13-year-old girl whose family, due to their strong religious beliefs, thinks she has had an immaculate conception. Throughout these challenges, Sister Julienne finds herself in a position where she must finally stand up to the Board of Health.

With a few exceptions (season 8 and season 10), Netflix has constantly added new episodes (including the Christmas special) each September. We expected the same to be the case with season 14, and that’s now confirmed with season 14 touching down on September 15th, 2025

As mentioned, season 15 is also on the way with its regular Christmas specials planned for this year and new regular season episodes beginning in January 2026. Furthermore, the BBC is also planning a prequel TV series set in Poplar during WWII, which is releasing in 2026 (no word on whether this will come to Netflix), in addition to a new movie “set overseas in 1972 and feature iconic characters from the existing TV show.”
