Netflix certainly appears to know what’s popular amongst subscribers as we look forward to another post-apocalyptic zombie Original. Daybreak, scheduled to release in October, is the latest in a growing number of Originals to feature the undead. We’re looking forward to Netflix’s adaptation of Brian Ralphs’ beloved comic series, and we have everything you need to know on the Original, including the plot, cast, trailer, and Netflix release date.
Daybreak is a Netflix Original post-apocalyptic comedy-drama based on the comic book series of the same name by cartoonist Brian Ralph. Brad Payton and Aron Eli Coloeite are the co-creators behind Netflix’s latest post-apocalyptic series, and also serve as the writers with Ira Madison III. The series is being produced by ASAP Entertainment (Rampage) and is exclusive to Netflix. Directing duties have been given to Sherwin Shilati (Riverdale), Kate Herron (Loki), Mark Tonderi (The Passage) and Brad Peyton.
What is the plot of Daybreak?
Set in a modern post-apocalyptic world, 17-year-old high schooler Josh Wheeler is searching for his girlfriend, Sam, in the growing wasteland of Glendale, California. Joining Josh on his journey is the 12-year-old, Pyromaniac Angelica and former bully turned pacifist samurai Wesley. Survival in this world means facing off against gangs of teenage-bandits and the zombie-like creatures Ghoulies.

The series adaptation of Daybreak is loosely based on the comic.

When and where did filming take place?
The majority of filming took place in the following locations:
- New Mexico State Film Office, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA
- Cottonwood Mall, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
- Milne Stadium, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
The mall that features in the series was a custom-built set. Items that can be seen were real products placed on the shelves.
Filming for Daybreak began on the 31st of October, 2018. Filming took place over the course of several months before concluding in April 2019.

How many episodes will the first season air?
It has been confirmed that the first season of Daybreak will stick with the Netflix standard of ten episodes.
What are the episode run times?
Each episode will have an approximate run time of one hour.
Will Daybreak be available to stream in 4K?
The vast majority of Netflix Originals arrive in 4K. Daybreak will also be available to stream in 4K.

Has Netflix released a trailer for Daybreak season 1?
Literally a couple of hours after publishing this article, Netflix finally dropped a teaser.
When is the Netflix release date for Daybreak season 1?
The first season of Daybreak will be arriving on Thursday the 24th of October, 2019.
It’s surprising the series will be released on the 24th and not the Friday, but with the releases of Dolemite Is My Name and The Kominsky Method season 2, you can see why Daybreak was pushed back a day.
Will Daybreak be available to stream in my region?
Daybreak has been acknowledged as a global Original. This means every Netflix subscriber will be able to stream Daybreak in any region with Netflix.
