It’s finally official, and this is better news than initially reported: the French hit title Lupin will be returning for a full fourth season (or part, as Netflix dubs it). Production is now fully underway in Paris for the new season, which will consist of eight brand-new episodes. Here’s what was just revealed.
A fourth season has been long overdue for announcement, having been rumored for at least a couple of years now, but has heated up considerably this year. A few months back, we reported that Netflix had given Lupin a renewal but was cautious about what form the series would take. Given Omar Sy’s high demand, there were suggestions he’d only be returning for a special or movie of some description. Indeed, the actor spoke on a French radio station, suggesting it may be something other than a series announcement when directly asked about a fourth season.
The series continues to be popular on Netflix despite the third part being released in late 2023. According to the Netflix Engagement Reports for 2023 and 2024, the three parts pulled in a collective 128.80 million views in that period. The show continues to be a global breakout, with Part 3 featuring in the weekly top 10s in 91 countries.
Omar Sy is returning for the new season and is pictured with his back towards the camera in the first released shot (see above). Of course, we’ll be seeing much more of Omar Sy on our screens in the coming years, with him next due to appear in the romance movie French Lover, set for release sometime in the back half of 2025. Just recently, too, the star was tied to a new series spin-off for the hit Netflix action franchise, Extraction. In the yet-to-be-titled series, he’ll be playing a mercenary. No word on production start for that series yet.
Sy is joined by Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab, Shirine Boutella, Théo Christine, and Laïka Blanc-Francard, who are all confirmed to be back.
Speaking about the renewal in a statement just released by Netflix, Sy said, “I often say that Lupin is an extraordinary plaything. I find great joy in it every time. Together with Netflix, Carrousel, and Gaumont, we’ve invested the time needed to raise our ambitions and deliver even more surprises and enjoyment, both for us and the audience. The fresh energy from Carrousel Studios aligns perfectly with this vision. I’m eager to share the new episodes with as many people as possible.”
Omar Sy and Louis Leterrier serve as showrunners on the new season, with the eight episodes set to be 45 minutes apiece. Gaumont produces the series in collaboration with Carrousel Studios. Edouard Salier, Everardo Gout and Hugo Gelin will direct with Mathilde Arnaud, Jean-Yves Arnaud, Florent Meyer, Tigran Rosine, and Pennda Ba writing.
