The Punisher is Netflix’s latest foray into The Defenders universe from Marvel and we’re looking into what’s going to happen to Frank in season 2 of The Punisher. Below, we’ll take a look at where his next adventure could take us, the official renewal status and when we’d likely get the next season of The Punisher.
Following on from his first appearance in Daredevil season 2, Frank Castle will be returning for his debut solo series on Netflix. The crime vigilante also known as The Punisher will premiere with 13 episodes looking at the origin story of the anti-hero.
This isn’t the first time a network has tried making a Punisher series as Fox tried back in 2011 with limited success. His appearance on Daredevil almost acted as a backdoor pilot for season 1 of The Punisher. The series will revisit his time in the military and also go into much more depth about what happened to his daughter and wife.

Season 2 Renewal Status
Official Renewal Status: Not Yet Renewed (Last updated: 11/15/2017)
You could be waiting some time for Netflix to announce a second season of The Punisher given the long list of upcoming seasons of other Marvel series.
It’s also worth noting that The Punisher season 1 was never part of the original lineup when Netflix first picked up The Defenders franchise. Season 1 of The Punisher is almost being treated as a bit of a break now the first phase of The Defenders has concluded.
Should The Punisher get a second season, there’s going to have to be a lot of work invested in a new storyline given that season 1 only be covered Frank’s past. This could mean going back to the drawing board and as we know, The Punisher series wasn’t planned in the first place so could take considerable time.
When will Season 2 be on Netflix?
While the series has yet to be renewed we can still take a guess as when it’ll come to Netflix. As we discussed above, it’ll have to involve Frank entering a brand new storyline which will take time to develop. Add the fact that we’ve got renewed seasons of the other Defenders, Frank will likely have to join the back of the queue.
Looking ahead to 2018 we already have three seasons of the other shows to watch including Jessica Jones season 2, Daredevil season 3 and Luke Cage season 2. In early 2019, we’ve got Iron Fist season 2 and most likely The Defenders season 2. That means that by the earliest, we would see The Punisher come towards the end of 2019 should Netflix continue releasing 3 seasons a year.
What about appearing in other Defender series?
The Punisher was noticeably absent in the 2017 season of The Defenders but The Punisher is likely to show up again in Daredevil for definite and given he also occupies the same space it’s also possible that he may meet up with Danny Rand, Jessica Jones or Luke Cage. We have no confirmation of any of this currently, though.
