As the French lineup slowly adds projects, the platform is staying in business with superstar Audrey Fleurot, through a new crime/thriller remake out of Korea and the return of a proven French genre expert at the helm.
As Audrey Fleurot is about to launch the prestige miniseries The Countess of Monte Cristo on TF1 and Netflix globally, the platform just started production on a project that marks a departure in her career. Since her first dramatic role in the long-running dramatic series Spiral, Fleurot has mostly chosen to appear in comedies, broad or less broad, and is better known as fearless consultant Morgane in HPI. But the movie À Cran (working title) sees her playing an antihero decorated cop, in an adaptation of the 2015 Korean movie Chronicles of Evil, which remained unreleased in France, as far as we can tell.
What is the logline for À Cran (working title)?
Here’s the official logline we’ve been provided:
A well-respected and soon-to-be-promoted chief of police, Claire Zeller has her own definition for justice. While her partner is pregnant and their lives are about to change, she shoots down a man who brutally assaulted her, and flees the crime scene. The next day, in front of her office windows, she discovers the body of the man hanging from a construction crane. Claire is then tasked to investigate the murder she committed; it is the beginning of an unstoppable spiral which could make her lose everything.
Who is starring in À Cran (working title)?
Alongside Audrey Fleurot as Claire Zeller, the movie will star Camélia Jordana in an undisclosed role (presumably Claire’s partner, although it remains TBD). Jordana is mostly known in France as a successful singer, but she has also had starring roles in both movies and television; one of her most successful projects was 2017’s Le Brio, for which she received the César for Best Female Newcomer. She had a starring role in the series Irrésistible for Disney+. This is Jordana’s first project for Netflix.
Rounding out the cast is Mathieu Demy, who was seen as the lead in the French acquisition Mytho/Mythomaniac, and co-created On The Verge with Julie Delpy; Jérémy Gillet and Oumar Diaw.
What else do we know on À Cran (working title)?
The movie is directed by Samuel Bodin, who was at the helm of one of the lone horror/genre series ordered by Netflix France: Marianne. The French director was also a director-for-hire on a couple of episodes of Furies (which remains officially in limbo for a third season); he also has extensively worked on French series with action star Alban Lenoir (the Lost Bullet trilogy). He also co-wrote the original movie with Corinne Garfin, Régis Blondeau and Mathieu Missoffe. The shoot is happening as of this week in the Paris area, and is set to move to Lyon in October and November.
When will À Cran (working title) be released?
No official release has been set by Netflix. Given the timetable of production and the many projects underway for 2027, we would be surprised if the movie was released by late 2027; a global unveiling in the first half of 2028 seems more likely.
