The Incredible Heist of Hallelujah Jones is an upcoming Netflix Original crime-comedy film written and to be directed by Viktor K. Gabriel (Hallelujah) and produced by Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), who is joined by Ishi Metkar of Waititi Productions. “During a season of extreme gun violence in Compton, California, a precocious book thief who hears the voices of his dead parents finds out that his family’s long-lost novel is being auctioned off. With the help of the neighborhood matriarch, a 100-year-old Black woman, he concocts a plan to steal it back.”

So far, the only confirmed cast member for the film is singer, rapper, and songwriter Janelle Monáe. Netflix subscribers and fans of Rian Johnson’s Knives Out film franchise should instantly recognize her as Cassandra and Helen Brand from Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. She also lent her voice to Big Mouth’s spin-off, Human Resources, as Claudia, and will star in the upcoming animated series Bass X Machina. She is best known for her music career, for which she has been nominated 10 times for a Grammy Award. Monáe has released four studio albums: The ArchAndroid, The Electric Lady, Dirty Computer, and The Age of Pleasure.

What is the production status of The Incredible Heist of Hallelujah Jones?
Production Weekly’s issue 1503 reports that filming is set to begin in Los Angeles, California, on June 1, 2026, with the shoot wrapping up by June 29, 2026. A four-week shoot is incredibly fast for a feature-length film, but not unusual for indie films, low-budget or made-for-television (in this instance, streaming).
The film is one of 52 movies benefiting from a new California tax incentive, which will provide $750 million annually to encourage production studios to shoot in Los Angeles.
Filming dates are subject to change.
What is the Netflix release date for The Incredible Heist of Hallelujah Jones?
At the time of writing, Netflix has yet to announce a release date for the film.
Given the filming schedule, the film may be released on Netflix before the end of 2026. However, a 2027 release is more realistic.
