KPop Demon Hunters is once again the biggest story of the week, with it now hitting a milestone that we don’t think any movie, at least anytime in the immediate future, will be able to touch. What else is going on in the top 10s, though? How well did Hostage, the new British series starring Suranne Jones, perform? How well did the new German romance thriller Fall for Me perform? It’s time for your top 10 report!

All the data used below is sourced from Netflix’s top 10 page, which updates weekly with the top 40 most-watched titles globally for that week, ranked by views. The data used below covers the period from August 18th to August 24th, 2025. We’ll be using the views metric in comparisons below. That metric is calculated by dividing the hours watched by the runtime. This metric enables more accurate comparisons between films and series, but it’s not a direct audience metric. It is the minimum number of viewings if they were all complete from the first second to the last second of the film or season.

Let’s kick off comparing with the weekly rank stats:

  • English TV – 51,600,000 views this week (Rank 37 of 114 weeks)
  • English Film – 73,900,000 views this week (Rank 56 of 114 weeks)
  • Non-English TV – 29,000,000 (Rank 49 of 114 weeks)
  • Non-English Film – 35,200,000 (Rank 56 of 114 weeks)

1. KPop Demon Hunters Does The Impossible

The biggest news of the week is undoubtedly the fact that KPop Demon Hunters has done what looked impossible over the past few years: knocking off Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson, and Gal Gadot from the top place of the Netflix charts. We’ve conducted a comprehensive analysis of the movie’s triumphant achievement, including a detailed examination of additional statistics in a new report we published ahead of the official figures being released, but here’s the chart that shows everything you need to know about this movie’s trajectory:

2. Hostage

The new British series Hostage, starring Suranne Jones, despite being heavily British-themed, didn’t put off viewers globally from checking it out, with 10.8M views in its first four days. That puts it on par with Black Doves, which picked up a swift Season 2 renewal. Although dubbed a limited series, the writer behind the show has said he’d like to continue it in some form or another. It wouldn’t be the first time Netflix has reversed its decision on a limited series becoming serialized.

3. Wednesday S2 Showing Stronger Decay Than S1

This week is one of our last chances to see how exactly Season 2 of Wednesday is performing against Season 1, and we’re seeing significant declines, with an over 50% drop in views week on week. Season 2 is currently sitting at 92.5 million views, compared to 150 million for Season 1 in week 3.

Of course, all of this is about to change, as the series will receive a significant boost on September 3rd, 2025, and the show appears to be on track to reach the all-time top 10 at some point before the year comes to a close. There has been considerable discussion among fans about whether the show should’ve been split, especially with only eight episodes, and those debates will likely continue.

4. Fall For Me

Making a grand start in the Netflix top 10 this week is the German romance thriller Fall For Me, which debuted with 16.5 million views in its opening four days. An impressive start, although it’s ranking slightly below Brick, the Matthias Schweighöfer and Ruby O. Fee thriller that’s quietly been chunking in viewership all summer, and now in its seventh week in the top 10s

5. No Show For Long Story Short

Bad news for fans of Raphael Bob-Waksberg: Long Story Short missed out on entering the top 10 this week with an incredibly slow debut for the show. We don’t have any figures beyond knowing that the series has only managed to enter the daily top 10s in Kenya and nowhere else. Not to worry, though, Netflix did order a second season upfront, which the streamer officially confirmed ahead of the release of season 1.

Fixed, which had a disappointing launch last week, is also a no-show, suggesting it received less than 3 million views in week 2.

6. Has Night Aways Comes Picked Up?

Last week, we covered how the Vanessa Kirby movie Night Always Comes struggled in its first week, with a performance that put it among the least successful of the year. Despite a 10% increase in viewing hours, it remains among the least viewed movies of 2025, with only Fear Street: Prom Queen beneath it. It’s also performing relatively weak against other award plays… Not sure what went wrong with this one.

Other Call Outs

  • Welcome to Sudden Death was licensed to Netflix in most regions on August 21st and did well enough to rank third in the English movie charts this week. Netflix US wasn’t among the recipients of the movie, which was last seen in the US back in late 2020. Michael Jai White is the lead star, and by all accounts, the movie is a bit shit. That said, never underestimate an action movie from doing well in the top 10s, especially when it’s added to a bunch of regions simultaneously.
  • Despite only being available in the United States, The Hunting Wives is still pulling in seriously impressive numbers, considering this is a global chart. This will likely be its last week in the top 10, but it has now picked up 20.6 million views (137.4 million hours watched).
  • Happy Gilmore 2 is still tracking quite closely alongside Damsel but will likely miss out on all the all-time top 10s by a whisker…

That’s it for our top 10 report this week – we’ll have more insights for you next week!
