We’ve got some fantastic news for fans of classic cable procedurals! The golden age of Netflix library licensing is showing absolutely zero signs of slowing down. We’ve learned that all six seasons of the hit TNT police procedural Major Crimes are officially scheduled to touch down on Netflix US in early September 2026.
If you’ve been following our reporting lately, this addition probably won’t come as a huge surprise, but it is certainly a welcome one. Earlier this year, we reported that Warner Bros. Television had officially opened the licensing floodgates to Netflix, coinciding with Netflix’s plans to acquire WBD. Of course, that didn’t work out, but thankfully, that hasn’t stopped more shows from being licensed since then, and it continues into September.
The spin-off follows the news from late last year when we learned the acclaimed Kyra Sedgwick procedural The Closer was finally coming to stream on Netflix US for the first time ever. Naturally, it only made sense that its wildly successful spin-off would eventually follow suit. Now, it’s official: Major Crimes is getting the coveted “Netflix Bump.”
The Closer, despite only being added in the United States, has picked up quite a bit of viewership on Netflix. Per the Engagement Reports covering the second half of 2025 and the first half of 2026, the series has now accumulated 221.1M viewing hours, equating to 19.8M views, in addition to spending 9 days in the daily top 10s in the States.
All six seasons and 105 episodes are set to arrive on Netflix US (we couldn’t find any additional regions) on September 3rd, 2026. This marks the first time the series has ever streamed on Netflix.
What is Major Crimes about?
If you’ve just finished binging The Closer and are hungry for more, Major Crimes is the ultimate continuation.
Premiering in 2012 directly following the series finale of The Closer, Major Crimes seamlessly picks up the baton. The series follows Captain Sharon Raydor—played brilliantly by two-time Oscar nominee Mary McDonnell—as she is appointed the new head of the LAPD’s Major Crimes Division following the departure of Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson.
While The Closer was famous for Brenda’s ability to extract dramatic confessions, Major Crimes shifts the series focus. Under Raydor’s measured and rule-abiding leadership, the squad pivots its strategy toward securing airtight convictions through complex plea deals, navigating the increasingly politicized and budget-conscious realities of the modern justice system.
Despite the change in leadership, fans of the original series were thrilled that the vast majority of the beloved ensemble cast stuck around. The spin-off features the return of G.W. Bailey (Lt. Provenza), Tony Denison (Lt. Flynn), Michael Paul Chan (Lt. Tao), Raymond Cruz (Detective Julio Sanchez), and Phillip P. Keene (Buzz Watson), while introducing new faces like Kearran Giovanni and Graham Patrick Martin.
