Wednesday Renewed For Season 3

It’s finally official. It’s been rumored for almost a year now, but today, THR exclusively reported that Wednesday Addams will be officially returning to Nevermore for a third season ahead of the release of season 2, set to release in two batches beginning in August and into September.

Rumors of a third season being in the works have been floating around for quite some time. They became deafening when we released a report in mid-March covering the latest intel that had emerged regarding Season 3 having a new codename, NIGHTSHADE & RAVEN. As we noted in our report, “Nightshade Society is the secret student organization at Nevermore Academy, and Raven has many symbiotic connections. There’s also a school event called the Rave’N Dance.”

In addition, Jenna Ortega confirmed in an interview that they had already been actively working on a third season at the beginning of 2025. However, she ultimately stressed that a third season had not been officially renewed. Production has been rumored to resume in late 2025.

Additionally, leaks suggested that seasons 2 and 3 were in development, with Season 2 directly leading into Season 3 in terms of the story. We won’t delve too much further into the details due to potential spoilers, but broadly speaking, the leaker promised character redemption, escalating threats, and deeper friendships. We had heard a renewal announcement might’ve been coming during the Upfronts and TUDUM, but neither of those came to fruition.

It may be too soon to speculate on a release date, but a very late 2026 release date could be realistic, assuming the ball gets rolling on season 3 relatively more quickly. We’ll have more for you and a full preview following the release of season 2 on Netflix over the Summer and into September.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, it is revealed that a “spinoff series is in early discussions,” but this has been known for some time. Bloomberg reported in December 2023 that an Uncle Foster spin-off series was being developed at the streamer; however, it is unclear whether that’s the same spinoff now in discussions. Showrunner Alfred Gough tells the outlet, “It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at.”

Asked about how long the series could ultimately run for, Tim Burton was pretty coy, saying, “I don’t think that way. You’re talking to two of the worst people to ask that question.” THR also added “Gough and Millar hope to keep Wednesday enrolled through the character’s Nevermore tenure, which lasts seven years (or seasons).”

Note: We’ll update with any additional reactions and social posts as the day progresses.

Speaking with TUDUM, showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said, “Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can,” adding that more family members will be explored, saying, “We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.”

In statements released to the press, the duo said, “It’s been a dark delight to watch Wednesday cast her spell over audiences across the globe—one deadpan quip at a time. We’re beyond thrilled she’ll be returning to stalk the halls of Nevermore in Season 3. This time, she’ll unearth more of the school’s sinister secrets—and descend even deeper into the Addams family crypt. Or, as Wednesday would say: ‘Nothing brings a family together like a good exhumation.”

Bela Bajaria, Netflix Chief Content Officer, said, “The undeniable impact of Wednesday resonated immediately with fans worldwide, driving it to the top of our charts as our most popular English language TV show, and sparking cultural trends. We are so proud of Al Gough, Miles Millar, Tim Burton, Jenna Ortega, and the entire Wednesday cast and crew for everything they’ve accomplished. On the heels of its highly anticipated season two return, we are thrilled to renew the iconic series for a third and to deliver more of what the fans love.”

Per Netflix, “Season 3 details, casting, and additional information will be shared at a later time.”
