Great News season 2 – Copyright NBC
Great News is the latest title from NBC to drop on Netflix and is a Netflix Original in international Netflix regions. The United States also got season 1 dropped last week and season 2 will be coming to Netflix eventually. Here’s what we know about season 2 of Great News and when it’ll be on Netflix.
The series comes from Tracey Wigfield who is mostly known for her work on 30 Rock, another popular comedy series from the same network which unfortunately left Netflix earlier in 2018.
Netflix really loves its NBC comedies both new and old and there’s no doubt as to why; they’re world class. Better yet, more often than not, they’re titles you can watch over and over again. Netflix now has the vast majority of older NBC titles in the US whether that be Friends, The Office, Parks and Recreation and even their newer comedies such as “The Good Place”.
Great News is an International Netflix Original
In August 2018, Netflix had acquired the international distribution rights to the show. That means in all countries outside of the United States (with the exception of Canada) the show is marketed as a Netflix Original title. That makes it two months on the trot that Netflix has acquired an NBC show as it picked up Good Girls last month.
What does this mean going forward? Essentially, all future seasons of Great News will be coming to Netflix albeit it’s only one more. We did a piece last week where we predicted that Netflix could be eyeing up a potential revival on the show as it’s rare for the streaming service to pick up essentially dead shows.
Netflix Release Date for Great News Season 2
Every region of Netflix got season 1 of the show in either July or August 2018 and that means if they’re renewing on an annual basis season 2 will be arriving in either July or August 2019. We suspect the release date might be sooner as the only reason we think that season 2 isn’t available at the moment is that Hulu has the catchup rights to the show and will release the episodes once that lapses.
