Zombie TV Series on Netflix: Halloween 2019

Kingdom N

Seasons: 1
Episodes: 6
Cast Members: Ju Ji-hoon, Ryu Seung-ryong, Bae Doona, Kim Sung-kyu, Kim Sang-ho

Kingdom has been one of the smash hit Originals of 2019 and arguably one of the best zombie titles we’ve seen in years. Genuinely bringing the fear back to the zombie genre, like its honorary predecessor’s Train to Busan and Rampant, the Korean filmmakers are absolutely nailing the genre. Notably, the image above taken from the series is one of the most amazing visuals we’ve ever seen from a zombie television series. There’s another season coming to Netflix in 2020 and we can’t wait.

In the Joseon period of Korea, the Crown Prince Change is caught in a political conspiracy and is forced to flee the capital. Upon his investigation into the man who treated his father, the King, Chang’s mission soon turns sour as he learns the doctor’s work has led to the creation of a mysterious plague that raises the dead. As the flesh-eating epidemic threatens the country, the Crown Prince must unite the people and save Korea.

The Walking Dead

Seasons: 9
Episodes: 131
Cast Members: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohen, Josh McDermitt

There’s no doubt that the biggest zombie franchise in the world right now is The Walking Dead. Despite its drop in the ratings in recent years it still maintains its place at the number one spot in the zombie genre. With nine seasons on Netflix to be binged on, that’s an entire horde of guts and gore to be enjoyed.

After awakening from a coma, Rick Grimes discovers the world he was once knew is now dead. Roaming the streets are hordes of flesh-eating zombies, and very little of humanity remains. Determined to find his wife Lori, and their son Carl, Rick heads to the city of Atlanta, in hope of reuniting with his family.

Daybreak N

Seasons: 1
Episodes: 10
Cast Members: Matthew Broderick, Austin Crute, Colin Ford, Jeanté Godlock, Gregory Kasyan

You’ll forgive us for adding Daybreak to this list as the time of publishing this article, the series has yet to arrive. Scheduled to arrive on October 24th, 2019, Daybreak puts the fun back into the apocalypse.

Set in a modern post-apocalyptic world, 17-year-old high schooler Josh Wheeler is searching for his girlfriend, Sam, in the growing wasteland of Glendale, California. Joining Josh on his journey is the 12-year-old, Pyromaniac Angelica and former bully turned pacifist samurai Wesley. Survival in this world means facing off against gangs of teenage-bandits and the zombie-like creatures Ghoulies.

Z Nation

Seasons: 5
Episodes: 68
Cast Members: Russel Hodgkinson, Nat Zang, Keith Allan, Kellita Smith, Anastasia Baranova

In the past decade, few shows have been as bizarre and zany as SyFy’s Z Nation. Not afraid to make fun of itself and its genre, Z Nation is one of the most fun zombie titles you’ll get to experience. With five seasons of bloody havoc, there’s certainly enough there to get a worthy binge out of.

Set in modern-day, a mysterious virus has annihilated most of the human race, turning them into mindless flesh-eating zombies. Three years after being left for dead, Murphy, immune to the virus after being experimented on, might just be the last hope humanity has of finding a cure.

Black Summer N

Seasons: 1
Episodes: 8
Cast Members: Jaime King, Justin Chu Cary, Christine Lee, Sal Velez Jr., Kelsey Flower

The dark and depressing cousin, Black Summer is the prequel series of Z Nation. With only one season to its name, fans have been hoping to see more of Black Summer but Netflix has been very tight-lipped about the future of the Original. With only eight episodes to its name, you could easily binge the series in a day while enjoying a bucket full of candy.

Set at the start of the zombie apocalypse, a mother is left with no choice but to enlist the help of a group of strangers if she is to find her lost daughter.

Runtime: 118 Minutes

Cast: Gong Yoo, Jing Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok, Kim Su-an, Kim Eui-sung

By 2016 the zombie genre was beginning to go stale thanks to the growing mediocrity of its film. Then came Train to Busan. Arguably one of the best zombie films of the 21st Century, if not, one of the best zombie films of all time. Train to Busan didn’t have any drastic changes to the genre, but what it did right, it did excellently. Utilizing hordes of zombies and destroying the survivor’s strength in numbers, they made zombies terrifying again.

Absentee workaholic Father Seok-Woo is taking his daughter Su-Anto to Busan to see her Mother when a zombie virus suddenly breaks out in South Korea, along with the other passengers on the train, the struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan begins.

Rampant (2018)

If you loved Kingdom then you will absolutely adore Rampant. Made by the creators of Train to Busan, Rampant is another excellent zombie movie that has to be viewed. Cargo (2017) N

Runtime: 105 Minutes
Director: Ben Howling, Yolanda Ramke
Cast: Simone Landers, Martin Freeman, Marlee Jane McPherson-Dobbins, Lily Anne McPherson-Dobbins, Finlay Sjoberg

An intimate take on zombie apocalypse, Martin Freeman did an excellent job of portraying doting father Andy. Utilizing the relationship between father and daughter and adding horror tropes throughout made Cargo feel like a truly unique title to the genre.

In a world overtaken by a virus that turns people into zombies within 48 hours, husband and wife, Andy and Kay, and their one-year-old daughter, Rosie, is living safely on a houseboat in rural Australia. Kay is bitten during a search for food and water and while trying to find medical supplies for his wife Andy crashes in a car accident, waking hours later Kay has succumbed to the virus and in his attempt to leave the car and take his daughter to safety he is bitten by his wife. Andy traverses across the Australian wilderness desperately trying to find someone to take care of his daughter before he falls victim to the virus.

Life After Beth (2016)

Runtime: 89 Minutes
Director: Jeff Baena
Cast: Aubrey Plaza, Dane DeHaan, John C. Reily, Molly Shannon, Cheryl Hines

While Life After Beth absolutely bombed at the box office and universally panned by critics, that’s not to say the film isn’t fun. There’s plenty to be enjoyed about Life After Beth, and it certainly deserves to go onto your watch list if you’re intending to go all out on a zombie binge-watching day.
