It is a sad day for Stars Hollow fans. Netflix has now weighed in and officially confirmed that the beloved series Gilmore Girls is leaving the streaming service, with its last day on the platform in the US slated for June 30th.
In a heartfelt statement on X, Netflix addressed the fandom directly with a nod to one of the show’s most iconic quotes:
“It’s a show? It’s a lifestyle. It’s a religion. We are sorry to say that Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-7 will be leaving Netflix in the US on June 30. Raising a cup of coffee to every fan who visited Stars Hollow with us.”
June 30th applies to the last day to watch, with the actual removal planned for July 1st. Netflix had previously declined to comment on our findings.
Netflix has now confirmed to us that it will keep the series internationally for the foreseeable future. The US and other select countries will see it depart. Netflix also confirmed to us that Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will depart in November, as we cover below.
The Writing Was on the Wall
For eagle-eyed fans and streaming trackers, this heartbreak is not entirely unexpected. As far back as 2022, our exclusive reporting on streaming licenses indicated that Netflix’s global hold on the series was set to expire by July 1, 2026.
Just earlier this month, third-party tracking sites flagged July 1st as the impending removal date and was appearing in the last chance to watch section. However, we held out a glimmer of hope. Because Netflix actively suppressed “Leaving Soon” warnings when they are quietly trying to thrash out a last-minute renewal deal, the absence of a notice on the show’s Netflix page led many to believe that negotiations with Warner Bros. Television were ongoing. Unfortunately, no deal was struck to save the original seven seasons.
The departure of Gilmore Girls marks another massive casualty in the ongoing streaming wars. Warner Bros. Discovery has been aggressively clawing back its most popular legacy shows—such as Friends, The Vampire Diaries, and Gossip Girl—to bolster its own streaming platform, Max. Given its colossal viewership—amassing over 3.7 billion viewing hours between 2023 and 2025 alone—the franchise is a crown jewel that Warner Bros. is eager to bring exclusively in-house.

What happens to the Netflix Original A Year in the Life?
With the original series packing its bags, fans are naturally wondering about the fate of the 2016 revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. You might assume that because it carries the “Netflix Original” branding, it is safe from the licensing drama, but that isn’t the case.
Because the revival was a co-production and the underlying IP is entirely owned by Warner Bros., Netflix only paid for an exclusive 10-year streaming window. Based on current intel, the four-part revival is slated to depart Netflix on November 25, 2026—exactly ten years to the day after it premiered on the platform. Since Netflix couldn’t secure a deal to keep the mothership series, it is incredibly unlikely they will extend the lease on the revival before November rolls around, but fingers crossed, we are wrong on that.
If you haven’t finished your rewatch, it’s time to grab a giant mug of coffee from Luke’s Diner and start your panic-binge. You have until June 30th to say your goodbyes!
