We’re just a week away from 3Below: Tales of Arcadia coming to Netflix. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming follow-on from Trollhunters, including its release date, how the story fits into Trollhunters, who’s producing, and who’s starring in the new series.
What is 3Below? It’s the second full-fledged series in the Tales of Arcadia franchise that’s exclusively on Netflix. The universe comes from the mind of Guillermo del Toro, who’s known for his excellent horror movie backlog, as well as his universe-building and storytelling ability. Trollhunters was the first entry in the Tales of Arcadia, split into 3 seasons across 52 episodes.
When will Season 1 of 3Below: Tales of Arcadia be on Netflix?
The new series will be dropping on Netflix on Friday, December 21st, 2018. It’ll arrive around the world across every region Netflix is operating in.
If you’re staying up, you’ll need to be awake at 12 AM Pacific time to catch the new series when it drops. That’s around 3 AM for those on the East Coast of America, 8 AM for those in the United Kingdom, and in the late afternoon for those in Australia.

Do you need to watch Trollhunters to see 3Below?
Although it’s ideal to watch TrollHunters before diving into 3Below it’s not essential. The stories are self-contained, although some characters overlap, as does the universe itself.
Dreamworks TV anticipated some people not watching Trollhunters, so it produced a 17-minute recap in a comic book format to get you prepped for 3Below. Ideally, however, to understand all the subtle storylines and characters, you’ll have watched all 52 episodes of Trollhunters available on Netflix everywhere.
How many episodes will there be in 3Below: Tales of Arcadia?
Unlike Trollhunters, which debuted with 26 episodes, 3Below will drop with only 13 episodes. Each episode will be 30 minutes long.
What’s the plot in 3Below?
In 3Below, we’ll be looking skywards as we follow two royal teenagers (who happen to be aliens) as they try and disguise themselves on Earth after their home planet is conquered. They crash land on Earth and must adapt to new appearances in the town of Arcadia and find help to return to their home.
We’ll be facing new enemies in 3Below as we leave Gunmar, Bular, Angor Rot, and Morgana behind. We don’t know much about who the villains are going to be in season 2, although we believe they’ll mainly be from space this time around.
Who’s voices appear in season 1 of 3Below?

Once again, Dreamworks and Netflix have attracted some top talent to appear in 3Below. The first season saw the likes of Charlie Saxton, Kelsey Grammar, Clancy Brown, Anton Yelchin, and Lexi Medrano appear.
Kelsey Grammar will return to reprise his role as Blinky. Rodrigo Blaas, Lexi Medrano, and Charlie Saxton are all set to return.
3Below will star Diego Luna, who recently appeared in the new Narcos series; Tatiana Maslany, who is most known for her multiple roles in Orphan Black; Nick Offerman, who’s known for his manliness and appearing in Parks and Recreations. Glenn Close, who starred in The Wife, rounds out the headline cast members in 3Below.
Also appearing in 3Below is Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter), Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes from Orange is the New Black), Nick Frost (Cornetto Trilogy), Cheryl Hines (Curb your Enthusiasm) and
Is there a trailer for 3Below: Tales of Arcadia?
A full trailer released on Netflix’s main account was released on December 12th.
Will there be a season 2 of 3Below?
3Below is to be once again split up into multiple parts. With 3Below because the first part only consists of 13 episodes, we think that 3Below may even release up to 4 seasons in total.
Trollhunters released over the span of two years, and we suspect it’ll be the same for 3Below, too.
That means we can expect part 1 in December 2018, part 2 in summer 2019, part 3 in winter 2019, and part 4 in summer 2020. Of course, that’s subject to change, but is based on the show’s past release schedule.
What comes after 3Below in the Tales of Arcadia trilogy?
Once all the seasons of 3Below have been completed, we’ll then be moving on to the final part of the Tales of Arcadia trilogy.
The final part is known as Wizards, according to the show’s creators: “The heroes of Arcadia join forces in an apocalyptic war for the control of magic that will decide the fate of the entire galaxy.”
