Anne with an E Season 3: Netflix Renewal Status and Release Date
Season 2 of Anne with an E or as it’s also known, Anne is now streaming on Netflix. In this article, we’ll be taking a look at the possibility, renewal and release date of the third season. We’ll also take a look at some other avenues that the show could take too.
In case you didn’t know, the series is certainly one of the best period dramas currently streaming on Netflix. It’s a cross-production between Netflix and a Canadian TV network who have successfully and beautifully adapted the novels of Lucy Maud Montgomery.
The second season arrived on Netflix on Friday, 6th July 2018 roughly a year after season 1 arrived on the service.
Anne with an E Season 3 Renewal Status
Official Renewal Status: Not yet renewed! (Last Updated: 07/08/2018)
Season 3 has yet to be announced by the shows main producers. In case you didn’t know already, Netflix doesn’t exclusively produce the series. Although it’s classed as a Netflix Original, the production of the show is shared with Canadian station, CBC. That means the renewal comes down to both partners.
Here’s the bad news, we’re expecting there to be a bit of a wait until season 3. Unlike last year, Netflix released the series before its Canadian partner. Canada is set to start airing the show weekly from September 2018. That could mean that we’ll have a wait for renewal unless production starts earlier.
When will season 3 be on Netflix?
We won’t have a clear idea as to when season 3 will come to Netflix until we get official confirmation. Because of the strange release in Canada this year, we’re not sure whether the show is going to stick to a yearly schedule. If it does, we’re expecting it to arrive on Netflix in summer 2019. Should the series switch books, moves to the future or have any other significant shift we can expect it to arrive much later.
Could they adapt the other books?
One point we should stress regarding the future of the show is that there’s literally no shortage in material to base future seasons on. As you may know, seasons 1 and 2 have been adapting the first book, Anne of Green Gables. There are a subsequent 10 books that the show could be based on. There are an additional 5 books where Anne is still a key member. There are also 3 books where Anne features but to a lesser degree. All of which are timeless stories and would no doubt provide great additional stories.
