Parents, brace yourselves—the Cocomelon universe is expanding once again! Netflix has officially confirmed that the hit live-action spinoff Cocomelon The Melon Patch is set to drop globally on August 17th.
If you’ve had a toddler in the house at any point in the last half-decade, you’re already well aware of the Cocomelon effect. Now, the juggernaut franchise is stepping out of its traditional 3D-animated roots to bring the beloved characters to life in a fresh, live-action format.

What is Cocomelon The Melon Patch about?
Originally launched on YouTube as an educational spinoff, The Melon Patch translates the magic of the main series into a live-action classroom setting.
Here’s the official synopsis for the new series:
“Music teacher Ms. Appleberry and her friends use catchy tunes to guide kids through fun sing-alongs about holidays, school, feelings, bedtime and more!”
Taking on the iconic live-action role of Ms. Appleberry is Allie Rivera Quiñonez, who leads the cast alongside David Reynolds and Jordyn Waldo. Developed in partnership with child development experts and academic scholars, the series focuses heavily on core learning principles—meaning parents can feel good about hitting “play” while the kids get their daily dose of catchy, foundational life-skill tunes.

Cocomelon’s Unstoppable Netflix Legacy
It is nearly impossible to talk about kids’ programming on Netflix without talking about Cocomelon. The franchise’s legacy on the streamer is simply unmatched.
For years, the flagship Cocomelon series has been a permanent fixture in the Netflix Kids Top 10. We’ve tracked its performance here at What’s on Netflix for a long time, and the show has spent hundreds of consecutive days literally dominating the charts worldwide, setting all-time streaming records for staying power. Between the original compilation seasons and spinoffs, it consistently pulls in lots of viewing hours. The Netflix Engagement Reports, covering viewing on Netflix from the beginning of 2023 through mid-2026, now have the main series and all of its various spin-offs clocking 2.477B viewing hours on Netflix, equating to over 1B views.
Of course, CoComelon will eventually be leaving Netflix, with Bloomberg confirming last year that the series is Disney-bound in 2027, although there are a few asterisks to be applied to that.
What other Cocomelon projects are in the works?
The Melon Patch isn’t the only slice of watermelon you’ll be getting. The Cocomelon cinematic universe (the CCU, if you will) is busier than ever. Here is what else is currently in the works or recently released:
- Cocomelon Lane – The narrative-driven, 3D-animated Netflix Original series is still going strong. Having launched multiple seasons over the past few years (with Season 7 dropping back in April), Netflix continues to heavily invest in JJ’s imaginative adventures where characters get to explore their feelings.
- CoComelon: The Movie – Yes, you read that right. JJ is heading to the big screen! Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation are currently hard at work on a full-length feature film slated for an early 2027 theatrical release. In a surprising twist, the movie will feature an all-star voice cast that includes SZA, Ike Barinholtz, Nicholas Hoult, Sarah Sherman, and Ego Nwodim.
With The Melon Patch arriving on August 17th, it looks like Ms. Appleberry’s classroom is about to become the hottest destination on Netflix for preschoolers everywhere.
