Season 2 of Kakegurui is available to stream on Netflix

Another season has come and gone and already we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the third season of Kakegurui. But will Kakegurui be returning for another outing? Let’s find out.

Kakegurui is a Netflix Original anime based on the manga of the same name. The story takes much of the narrative from the anime but it has been adapted with some characters exclusive to the series. The animation and production of the series which is handled by MAPPA have done an excellent job of recreating some of the best moments from the manga into the anime. The over the top facial animations and the lewdness of Yumeko Jabami has fans constantly coming back for more.

In the private academy of Hykakkaou, it isn’t your athletic ability or your academic skills that get you to the top of the school. It’s your skill to read your opponent and to destroy them in a game of Poker or Black Jack. When newcomer Yumeko Jabami arrives at the school she shakes the very foundations of it to its core after as she teaches the students what it means to be a real gambler.

Kakegurui Season 3 Netflix Renewal Status

Official Netflix Renewal Status: Pending (Last Updated 17/06/2019)

Currently, there is no news on renewal from Netflix or the production studio MAPPA. Netflix doesn’t necessarily have the final say on renewal but the money spent on licensing the show contributes massively towards the development of the series. To anyone confused by this, Netflix has the international license to distribute Kakegurui globally outside of Japan, but it’s not up to them on whether or not the anime is renewed. That decision will come down to MAPPA and the Japanese networks that air the show across their country.

We can expect to hear news sometime soon. The show already has a very loyal fan following with many anticipating a third season. Suffice to say if there isn’t a follow up to the Season 2 there will be many disappointed subscribers.

Does the story warrant another season?

The narrative of the series is pretty clear, all that Yumeko Jabami cares about is gambling. With so many games you could utilize and be used in a gambling setting you can continue to produce more episodes. Obviously, the plot surrounding the control of the school is important but it means little to Jabami who would likely gamble control of the council at her earliest chance just for the thrill of it.

Story so far aside, there’s more than enough source material to warrant the release of another season. Fans of both the manga and anime will have noticed the anime has jumbled up the order of some of the games. Not to mention the character of Rei is exclusive to the anime. The fact the writers have written a story arc just for the anime must mean they have more plans in the future.

There’s a demand for Season 3?

Oh definitely! Naturally, fans have taken to Twitter to express their desire for Season 3.

When is the release date for Season 3?

As we’re unsure on if and when production begins on the next season of Kakegurui, at the earliest we can expect the series to arrive in the Summer or Fall of 2020. The series would air in Japan first for roughly twelve weeks. After that, there is a delay of a few months before the next season arrives on Netflix.

Assuming the series debuts in either the Winter or Spring will dictate a Summer or Fall release.

They’ll likely have to rename the next season as Kakegurui xxx may bring up some rather interesting search results. No one is safe from Rule 34 after all.

Potential Release Date: Summer/Fall 2020
