We’re still learning about more licensed series headed to Netflix in the United States, and just added to the roster is the sci-fi mystery series starring Halle Berry, Extant, which originally ran on CBS. Both seasons will be available on Netflix from August 18th, 2025, for a limited time.
Created by Mickey Fisher with Steven Spielberg listed as an executive producer, the series was an ambitious swing by CBS in the mid-2010s, with 26 episodes being produced across two seasons before ultimately having the plug pulled.
Featuring a big-time Hollywood star was the main draw for the sci-fi series, which followed Molly Woods, an astronaut who worked for the International Space Exploration Agency and had to work alone in solitude for a 13-month period aboard a state-of-the-art space station named Seraphim. When she returns home, she finds her life changed forever as she has become mysteriously pregnant.
Berry is the main draw of the series and has proven herself on Netflix in the past with movies Bruised and, more recently, The Union. She was tied to another Netflix project called The Mothership, although it was ultimately scrapped after production. Rounding out the cast are Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Hiroyuki Sanada, Camryn Manheim, Grace Gummer, and Michael O’Neill.
Both seasons are coming to Netflix and will stream alongside its more permanent residence on Paramount+, where the show has been a staple for the past few years. This marks the first time the show has been on Netflix.
Netflix has had its own fair share of attempts at creating a big space series, although many have failed to gain significant traction and longevity. Another Life is a good example, running for two seasons before being canceled, and Away, starring Hilary Swank, didn’t even get a second season. Lost in Space is arguably their most successful show in the genre, although they’ve had more swings and hits when it comes to space movies.
The addition of the show comes at an opportune time, given that Netflix is about to launch its new livestreams in a team-up with NASA beginning this Summer.

Other licensed shows confirmed for Netflix in the US include the NBC series (similarly canceled after two seasons), Quantum Leap, Outlander, and Sullivan’s Crossing.
