A viral post circulating social media is suggesting that Netflix is not only producing a God of War series but season 1 will arrive come July 15th, 2018. Sorry folks, it’s not happening and you’ve been bamboozled!

This isn’t the first time there’s been a social media post spread promoting a Netflix Original series that simply doesn’t exist. The last two examples include Resident Evil early last year which was expected to get a Netflix series. There was also a fake A Series of Unfortunate Events trailer that released several years ago but months later, it was actually announced as a full-fledged series. That may be the case with God of War but to the best of our knowledge, there’s no such thing as a God of War series.

God of War, in case you didn’t know, is a video game franchise that recently got a new entry just last year. The series has a massive following and is owned by Sony.

The post on Facebook alone has garnered nearly 150,000 shares, 70,000 likes, and nearly 80,000 comments. It was attached with the tagline: “Are you ready for this? Jason Momoa will portray the infamous Kratos in the new Netflix Series #GODofWAR” Here’s the photo that was attached to the post.

If a title was being developed around the God of War franchise its likely that Sony’s movie production would be behind it and it’d be a blockbuster movie opposed to a series.

Some good news…

We do have some good news though. In case you haven’t already heard, Netflix is producing a series around another video game series called The Witcher. The series is currently in early development. If the Jason Momoa was the most exciting prospect of this announcement then you’ve probably already checked out his Netflix Original series Frontier. He’s also putting the final touches on Aquaman due out in cinemas soon.

For the meantime, the closest you’re going to get to a God of War movie is by watching all of the cutscenes from the most recent video game release.

Of course, we could eventually be eating our hats here because the franchise is ripe for an opportunity to turn into a full-on TV series. At the moment at least, it’s not to be. Would you like to see a God of War series and do you think Netflix would be the best provider to make it?
