On My Block is one of Netflix’s crowning coming-of-age dramas which there are now a lot of on Netflix. Season 2 was quickly picked up on Netflix after a super successful first season on the service. We thought we’d give you an update on everything we know about season 2 of On My Block including casting announcements, plot news and when it will release on Netflix.
Released earlier in early 2018, the first season of On My Block dropped rather quietly onto Netflix. The coming of age drama aimed predominantly at teens but unlike others in the genre, it shows a more serious side to growing up.
On My Block Season 2: Everything We Know So Far
Season 1 Recap: On My Block
The series is set in Los Angeles in a rough inner-city neighborhood where we follow four teens trying to navigate growing up as they all begin high school.
Season 1 of On My Block landed on Netflix first on March 16th, 2018 and had ten episodes for the first season. It starred up and coming actors Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, and Ronni Hawk as well as a recurring role from Jessica Marie Garcia.
Reception: On my Block
Tremendously well. Out of a sea of coming-of-age dramas, especially those releasing on Netflix, the show has been referred to as one of the best breakout shows of 2018 so far.
Of course, the show ultimately succeeded several other Netflix shows with Everything Sucks releasing at a similar time period getting the plug pulled several months later.
At the time of writing, On My Block was sitting at an 8.1 out of 10 on IMDb from over 4,000 reviewers.
In addition, the show was both nominated and won a teen choice award in August 2018. The award was for the best “TV breakout show”.

Season 2 Renewal: On My Block Season 2
Yes! Season 2 was announced on April 13th, just a few weeks after the series had first aired on Netflix. With the reception we spoke about above, it was never in question.

FYSEE: On My Block Season 2
Every year, Netflix puts on a big event called FYSEE. It’s where it showcases and speaks to some of its biggest actors and shows. On My Block was fully present with most of the cast from season 1 appearing.
Theories and Predictions: On My Block Season 2
The big cliffhanger at the end is regarding the sudden shooting and potential death of Olivia and Ruby.
The two ambulances at the end leave us believing that one of the two has died once the ambulance lights go out and its speed decreases. Ruby looks to have had his lung shot as opposed to Olivia who was shot in a more critical position. Many have theorized that because Ruby’s breathing comes to a stop once the lights go out that he’s gone. We’ll have to wait until episode 1 to find out.
Of course, you’ve also got the plot line with how the gang is going to react when they find out Cesar didn’t commit fully to killing the kid in the bathroom.
Casting News: On My Block Season 2

So far, casting announcements have been few and far between. We’re expecting most to all of the cast to return for season 2. This includes Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, and Julio Macias.
On IMDb, the only confirmed actress for season 2 is Jessica Marie Garcia who plays Jasmine. Deadline later confirmed that Jessica had been upped to a season regular.
We do know of the returning writers for season 2. These were confirmed on Twitter on September 23rd, 2018. Most of the writers from season 1 are returning.

Episode Count: On My Block Season 2
It’s been confirmed by the OMB writers account that there’ll once again be 10 episodes in season 2. Writing for season 2 wrapped up at the end of August 2018 and was celebrated in the writer’s room with a bottle of champagne and red bull.
