Netflix will release a new prequel series to the DreamWorks Animation hit The Bad Guys on November 6th, 2025. Titled The Bad Guys: Breaking In, the new series serves as a precursor to the films and allows you to get to know the characters before they made “heist-ory.”
Set before the events of the two main films, the synopsis for the prequel reads, “How did the Bad Guys break into the bad guy business in the first place? Find out in this hilarious prequel series set before the hit films.”
Of course, Netflix already has a connection to The Bad Guys in two ways. Most importantly, the streamer already carries two exclusive holiday specials based on the DreamWorks IP. The first one, titled The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday, was released in November 2023, while a Halloween special, titled The Bad Guys: Haunted Heist, dropped in October 2024.
Netflix, in the United States, also has partial first window rights to all DreamWorks Animation theatrical films, which means that The Bad Guys 2, which hit theaters this Summer, will head to Netflix in the US for a 10-month stint beginning in 2026. Our current estimate is somewhere around March.
Much like those animated specials, the movie’s cast, including the likes of Sam Rockwell, Craig Robinson, and Awkwafina, are not present, even if their characters are. Instead, those roles are voiced by a capable voice cast, including:
- Michael Godere (The Affair) as Wolf
- Ezekiel Ajeigbe (Outer Banks) as Shark
- Raul Ceballos (The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib) as Piranha
- Chris Diamantopoulos (American Dad) as Snake
- Mallory Low (Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles) as Tarantula
- Zehra Fazal (Dew Drop Diaries) as Tiffany Fluffit
- Patton Oswalt (The Sandman) as Mr. Wigglesworth
- Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black) as Serpentina
In an exclusive reveal to Collider, it was revealed that the team behind the series, including executive producers Bret Haaland and Katherine Nolfi, had a close relationship with the film team while crafting the sequel. In addition, the outlet also got an exclusive quote from executive producer Nolfi, who said, “As a fan of the books and movies, it’s been a joy to work with such an incredible team on the series. Exploring the early days of The Bad Guys and how they learn, or at least try to learn, to be the super cool crew we know from the movies has been a blast. I can’t imagine a badder crew of actors, writers, directors, artists, and all-around production to pull off this heist with.”
The outlet also shared another first-look image for the series:

The series is just the latest from a decade-plus relationship between Netflix and DreamWorks Television, which has seen many of their biggest IPs, such as The Boss Baby, Spirit Riding Free, Trolls, and even Captain Underpants, receive TV adaptations. While many of those series have now departed Netflix, a large collection still remains, with some even getting new season updates, such as Gabby’s Dollhouse.
One quick note: Like all other DreamWorks Animation series, this series has been confirmed to be unavailable to subscribers on the advertising tier. To watch, you must be on an ad-free Netflix plan.
