Welcome to a slightly different kind of Netflix top 10 report! After three years, Frederic is stepping aside from publishing his Top 10 report in English (more on this at the bottom), but that doesn’t mean we won’t be diving deep into the top 10s. This week, we cover Too Much, the big Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano Fight, Squid Game season 3, KPop Demon Hunters, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Destination Wedding, and more!

Note: In this report of Netflix’s hours viewed from July 7th, 2025, to July 13th, 2025, we’ll use “Complete Viewings Equivalent,” or CVE, expressed in millions. That means we divide the hours viewed announced by Netflix by the runtime of films or series. It allows for better comparisons between films and series, but it’s not an audience metric. It is the minimum number of viewings if they were all complete from the first second to the last second of the film or season.

How does this week stack up against prior weeks

  • TV (English) – Rank 107 of 108 weeks (Yes, this is the second worst week since Netflix’s view records began in June 2023!)
  • TV (Non-English) – Rank 7 of 108 weeks
  • Movies (English) – Rank 21 of 108 weeks
  • Movies (Non-English) – Rank 23 of 108 weeks

1. Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano Fight

On Friday, Netflix went live with the highly anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, and the first-week figures are in. While we suspect that more accurate comparisons will come much later this year with Canel vs Crawford, given that the Mike Tyson fight was such a once-in-a-lifetime event and caught the zeitgeist like nothing else. Still, how does it stack up?  It launched with 9.4M watch hours, equating to 2.8M views compared to the 46.6M number that Jake Paul and Mike Tyson picked up:

These weekly statistics aren’t the only ones released for the event; Netflix has also issued press releases for both events.

Here are the two events stacked up against each other based on data provided by Netflix in press releases. Based on the viewership numbers they’ve provided (note that the two providers are different and therefore will have different methodologies), we can determine that this event accounted for approximately 5.56% of the global viewership of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight and 8.94% in the US.

Metric Taylor vs. Serrano 3 Event Paul vs. Tyson Event
Data Source VideoAmp (US) & Netflix (Global) TVision (US) & Netflix (Global)
Global Viewers (AMA) Nearly 6 million (Live+1) 74 million (Live)
US Viewers (AMA) 4.2 million (Live+1) 47 million (Live)
Global Viewers (AMA) Nearly 6 million (Live+1) for Taylor-Serrano 3 108 million (Live) / 125 million (Live+1) for Paul-Tyson
Concurrent Live Streams N/A 65 million (Global Peak) / 38 million (US Peak)
Netflix Performance
#1 Ranking In 4 countries (US, IE, AU, NZ) In 78 countries
Top 10 Ranking In 43 countries In 91 countries
First Week Views 2.8 million (Total hours viewed / runtime) 46.6 million (Total hours viewed / runtime)
Social Media / Other Notable Metrics
Main Event Trend #TaylorSerrano trended at #3 globally #PaulTyson trended at #1 worldwide
Gate / Attendance $2.63M gate from 19,721 attendees at MSG $18.12M with 72,300 attendees at AT&T Stadium

The Paul vs. Tyson is still in a league of its own, then. The audience was approximately four times larger than one of the highly successful NFL Christmas games (~31M viewers each). The NFL games, in turn, significantly outpaced the standalone Taylor vs. Serrano 3 event, with each game attracting about five times more global viewers than the boxing main event’s audience of nearly 6 million. This places the three events in a clear viewership hierarchy: Paul vs. Tyson at the top, followed by the NFL games as major streaming successes, and finally the more niche, albeit historic, Taylor vs. Serrano 3 event.

2. Too Much is a no show!

As mentioned above, this was a horrible week for English language series, with only the period from April 8, 2024, to April 14, 2024, picking up fewer views in the top 10 than this week. Ouch. Lena Dunham’s big new series, Too Much, was the big Netflix release for last and failed to enter the top 10. That means it received less than 2 million views in its opening week, despite featuring in the weekly top 10s in eight countries

What does that mean for the show’s future? Well, we know Lena Dunham is sticking with Netflix thanks to a new overall deal, and her new movie Good Sex is in production right now. Beyond that, Too Much might get a renewal given that we’ve seen comedies having to cross a substantially lower bar to get renewed before. The Vince Staples Show and Mo are good examples of that, and even the most recent renewal for Survival of the Thickest, too.

3. KPOP Demon Hunters Continues On Its Ridiculous Trajectory

Talk about a success story. KPOP Demon Hunters started out fairly average for a Netflix animated project, but now, in week 3, it’s climbing to ridiculous heights. Last week, we discussed how the movie has maintained one of the best holds of any film, and this week, it actually gained viewership, up 6.61%. It now sits at 80.3M views in week 4.

If we stack up the trajectory week over week, you can see KPop Demon Hunters is actually looking to surpass Leo on its current rate and become Netflix’s most-watched animated launch of all time. Incredible.

4. Tyler Perry Delivers Hit After Hit For Netflix

Debuting at #2 on the movie list this week is Madea’s Destination Wedding, proving once again that Tyler Perry can produce hits for Netflix. Better still, this first week debut is actually ahead of the first A Madea Homecoming movie.

4. Another Week, Another Trainwreck Documentary

Poopcruise’s crown is definitely safe, although the new alien-inspired entry in the Trainwreck documentary series releasing over the summer has now taken second place ahead of The Astroworld Tragedy and Mayor of Mayhem. Next week: Balloon Boy.

5. Olympo – One Month In

We’ve already predicted a comfortable renewal for this one, and the full first-month stats are now in, and we’re doubling down on our prediction. The series started off relatively weak but had a massive 115% rise in viewing hours in week 2 and has shown a steady decline since then. This probably won’t quite go to the distance like Elite did, but still, a good start for a fledgling series during a hectic period with Squid Game sucking up much of the oxygen.

6. Brick

International Netflix Original films don’t quite have a defined release date like most English-language movies do, as they can be released on either a Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. In the case of Brick, the new thriller starring Matthias Schweighöfer and Ruby O. Fee, they opted to release it on a Thursday. It debuted to 18.2M views, which, compared to other Thursday releases from the past couple of years, looks pretty good. Compared to some of the other German movies this year, it’s not so good. Exterritorial did 38.3M (Wednesday release), Sixty Minutes (Friday) did 10.6M, and Delicious (Friday) did 6.5M.

7. Will Squid Game S3 beat Squid Game S2?

No.

How Netflix Stacks Up In the Nielsen H1 2025 Charts, And Netflix Is Losing Ground?

Earlier this month, Entertainment Strategy Guy posted that the streaming wars were heating up, citing Nielsen data. He displays a graph from the past four years that shows Netflix losing share in the top 10s of the Originals category over time. In 2021, Netflix Originals accounted for 80% of the slots in the top 10, compared to an average of 52% for 2025.

That trend is undeniable, but there are a couple of counterpoints: Netflix has pulled back on releasing so many Originals, and Nielsen’s top 10s very much favor long-running Originals, whereas Netflix has had a lot more focus on limited series in recent years, meaning fewer episodes to consume minutes. You could also argue that most other streamers are more top-heavy with their titles, relying on one or two big hits each quarter, rather than Netflix’s consistent stream of new content on a weekly basis. You could argue this is all excuses because in the end, the stats don’t lie. Other streamers are more competitive than ever in the US Nielsen top 10s!

Also on the Nielsen front this week, the company released its top streaming titles for the first half of 2025, comprising 20 titles across four categories: Overall, Originals, Acquired, and Movies. Here’s how Netflix fared:

  • Overall – Netflix has six titles in this list, albeit it shares the license for most of them with other streamers.
    • Grey’s Anatomy #2 (shared with Hulu – lifetime rights with Netflix)
    • NCIS #3 (shared with Hulu/Paramount – Netflix lost most of the middle seasons but regained earlier seasons)
    • Squid Game #9
    • The Night Agent #14
    • Supernatural #15 (Exclusive to Netflix but scheduled to leave later this year)
    • Young Sheldon #19 (Shared with Max and Paramount+)
  • Originals – Netflix has 11 out of the 20 slots in this category.
    • Squid Game #1
    • The Night Agent #3
    • Ginny & Georgia #4
    • You #9
    • The Residence #11
    • Love is Blind #12
    • Black Mirror #15
    • Zero Day #16
    • Stranger Things #17
    • Virgin River #18
    • Sweet Magnolias #20
  • Acquired – Most of these titles dominate the overall list, so lots of overlap:
  • Movies  – Netflix occupies 9 out of the 20 slots here, albeit that four of the movies are courtesy of first window deals Netflix has in the US.
    • Despicable Me 4 #2 (US holds partial rights with Peacock for 10 months)
    • Back in Action #3
    • The Wild Robot #5 (US holds partial rights with Peacock for 10 months)
    • The Electric State #7
    • Kraven The Hunter #11 (Sony first window deal in the US)
    • Nonnas #14
    • The Life List #16
    • Super Mario Bros. Movie #17 (US holds partial rights with Peacock for 10 months)
    • Straw #18

Finally…

As you may have noticed, this top 10 report is being published by me, Kasey, and not Frederic, who has been on the case for us for three years now. While Frederic will continue to do the occasional article for us (usually alongside his own website), he will no longer be carrying the burden of doing a top 10 report every Wednesday for us. I want to thank him for his years of hard work and look forward to continuing to work with him, albeit on a smaller basis. You can still read his work on the Netflix n Chiffres website!

We should be back for some more viewership news in just a couple of days with the release of Netflix’s second-quarter results, which should bring with it viewership data for January to June 2025. You can see all the prior engagement reports here.

That’s it for this week! Let us know what you think in the comments, and you can find all of our links to the top 10 tools we offer below:
